Here's a great idea I've just seen mentioned on another forum.

If you want to change your oil, rather than faffing around with trying to unscrew sump plugs and then getting oil all over your fingers etc, these people have come up with a replacement valve that allows you to drain into a container (via a hose if you want) without removing a plug.

You just lift a lever, rotate the valve and you're sorted. You can even just drain part of the oil if you've over-filled it, rather than having to drain the whole engine and start again.

For £20 it looks like a really helpful little gizmo.

They don't list one specifically for Fazers, but there's an enquiries link you can send details to and if enough people ask, I'm sure they'll be adding it to the list!

So basically, ANYONE could drop your oil as they passed by your parked bike, with no tools? :rolleyes

i would constantly be thinking if it was working loose or about to spew hot oil all over the road (and back tyre) no thanks

Why is it easier than unscrewing a bolt? You have to wait around for the oil to come out anyway so the time/hassle saved by this thing is negligable.

A solution looking for a problem.

Yes, someone could do that. They could also kick your bike over or stick a knife through your tyres or slash your seat or put a nick in your brakelines or key your tank or...

If someone's enough of a petty minded little shit that they think about such things, they'll find *SOME* way to foc up your bike whether or not you're using this.

It isn't. Although it's better than possibly getting hot oil over your hand *after* you've unscrewed it!

And it's a damn sight better than possibly stripping the thread on the sump bolt when you're trying to get it back in.

Still, fine, if you don't like the idea, just don't buy one, it's no skin off my nose.

They are brilliant and save a lot of time mess and hassel. I used to work on plant equipment and lots of the kit had similar valves fitted, bit of hose on the outlet and straight into the waste oil container job jobbed Big Grin

Like the idea of this BUT dont like the EASE of opperation now if it was a bolt or something like that which required a tool to open the valve rather than just a hand it would be better still no chance of stripping threads etc say 1/2 turn of a bolt oil out 1/2 turn stop how much crap would build up in this with moving parts and gaps to be filled with road crap and salt etc I was thinking along the lines of a radiator drain valve or an in line gate valve sort of thing. As I said I like the idea it is just the operation that puts me off. IMHO :rolleyes

I really like that idea, especially for if you over fill, sounds easier and cleaner. I wouldnt worry about anyone opening the valve when your parked up somewhere as most people wont even know about these devices yet and i cant imagine anyone would be walking around thinking I wonder if i could drain that bikes oil?
