Time for some new booties - what's good, waterproof and sensibly priced - say less than £150 ?
Need to try on so needs to be a shop that stocks 'em nr Bristol - so HG, JTS, Fowlups and prob a couple of others if they're a common make of boot.
Looking for a commuting/touring style, not racing.
Check out TCX boots. They are my next boot purchase.
After a very wet ride through Wales my feet were soaking in my old frank thomas boots. my mate in his TCX were bone dry (git)
He thinks they are the most comfortable boots he has ever had. not sure the exact model but i can find out if needed.
Lord,
Grant me the WD-40 to move those things that are stuck, the Duck tape to fasten those things that are loose, And the wisdom to know the difference.
Amen
Had a quick look and i am sure its this model

I have a pair of supposedly waterproof Oxtar boots and i must say they are absolutely ..........................shite!
Didn't Oxtar become TCX?
i had a pair of Spada's a while back for around 100 quid, can't remember the name, and they were utter shite also. Lesson learned, if 'waterproof' really is important you'll need to spend a bit more.
I have Sidi Black Rain now and they're pretty good - 170 odd quid tho.
Someone sent me a postcard picture of the earth. On the back it said, "Wish you were here."

i always wear Hi-tec magnum classics patrol boot, leather and kevlar, i know they are not a bike boot but they are great for touring grate support and waterproof, worn them for years now with no issues.
I have some alpinestars touring boot. Not very sexy but have remained waterproof, weren't too expensive when i got them (probably years ago now as I've not been riding much).
Sommat by Daytona... Mine haven't leaked despite the punishment they've been given.
All I can say is don't go for Alpinestar Drystar Hydrosport,,,,,,,
I have Alpinestar SMX4 WP Boots and they have been bone dry wearing them everyday for 3 years.
Replacement model is £200 though.
Not trying to hijack your post but I'm thinking of buying a pair of Sidi Courier's, suppost to be water proof . Anybody had any experiance with them?
selling for £199on the net a bit over your limit I know
Martin,
This months Ride mag has a 9 page product test on waterproof boots.
In their order of merit, the top 5 were:-
TCX Infinity gore-tex
Daytona Evo sports GTX (expensive)
Alteberg Clubman Roadster
Daytona roadstar GTX
Altberg Roadrunner
I was set on getting a set of Altbergs last time, went to Silvermans in east London to try several pair on but just couldn't get my foot in and do the zip up! The alternative was to go to Yorkshire, get a set made to measure but it was November and they were quoting January for when they were to be ready. Mmm, the bad weather was already setting in by that time.
If you are going to use them every day, don't scrimp on price and quality. I paid £160 for the Alpinestars and they leak in heavy downpours regardless of what waterproofing treatment I use.
You need a copy of this month's Ride Magazine. They have a big article on boots - loads tried and tested. Ride's analysis on kit is usually very good so it's worth a read before parting with your money.

"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - strawberries in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming - WOO HOO! What a Ride!"
