5LV or not 5LV that is the qn???
#1
Hi all,
was reading the post about changes between  03 and 04 fazers and someone said the pre -04 bikes had the code 5LV and the 04 and 05 ones were 1C2 (I think) my qn is this... I have an 04 bike (had it from new in May 04) and it has the 5LV code, in fact all the panels etc are stamped with that code, so is mine 04 or do you reckon it was an earlier bike sold to me as an 04 model. Not that fussed but as its 8 years old now it will start needing parts etc so need to know which to get if there are differences between the years.

You gotta bear in mind that many bikes (and cars, etc) are from a particular manufacturing year, but sit in a showroom for an extended time and are registered in a different year. My 2005 FZS1000 is on an 07 plate. It's still an 05 model though.

the vin no will be the confirmation, most parts will be basicaly the same so the part id will stay the same ,found this on the net "2001 FZS1000 Fazer: R1 engine and brakes, basic but  capable chassis. The first Fazer 1000’s a massive hit. 143bhp at the crank – typical bikes dyno 122bhp at the rear wheel. In 2003 it becomes available with a  black engine (designation FZS1000S) and gets an updated instrument panel. In  2004 the model code changes from 5LV to 1C2 but there are no significant  technical changes. 2005 black frame, ECU and catalytic converter changes to cope  with the latest emission regs

I have an 04 model (USA skunk) with black frame and black engine and as you say 5LV is on lots of the parts. It was registered in May 04 on an 04 plate, but date of manufacture is Sep 2003.

I have never had a problem buying genuine or aftermarket parts, I always choose 04 os the model when ordering, ride more worry less

Cheers all for the input, it was only for parts that I had a slight concern, was actually not raining here today so went for a little ride, and the rest of the world and its problems ceased to exist for an hour or so Smile
