#1
Anybody got one ?
Thinking of getting an early 1989 or 1990 model as I wanted one in the early nineties but could'nt afford one then.
Anything to look out for other than there thirst for oil ?

I had a pre-EXUP FZR1000 that had been tweaked by the club racer who owned it before me. It went like sh!te off a shovel but was feccin heavy on the arms at slow speed and didnt seem to handle anywhere near as well as the FZS600 I replaced it with.

I got rid of it because it was too quick.

As for things to llok out for, they do drink a bit of oil but not as much as the R1's that replced them.

Main problems with them are where they have not been looked after and crashed. Check for duff bearings (head and wheels) knackered sprokets and tyres due to hte power delivery and the ability to lose your licence in just a few seconds.

I n the day a phenomenally fast powerful machine-think it was the first Yamaha to use the Deltabox frame. It was quoted as 140bhp with a top end of 170mph. As BBROWN says a quick way to lose your licence. I couldnt afford one then either-now Im happy with the Fazer thou as they are relatively cheap nowadays with more than enough power for my needs. Think the FZR1000R was the best handling Jap superbike until the Fireblade came along. See a few for sale in MCN etc but getting one that hasnt been thrashed within an inch of its life...? :eek

Ok thanks for the heads up about the forum, have been looking for a U.K based forum aswell but not had much look finding one with some recent activity on it ?
I was actually fortunate enough to have owned an old GENESIS model in the late nineties, it was all I could afford at the time, I could'nt stretch my finances enough for the EXUP  :'(
Ive been looking for a couple of months now & ive not really found the right bike yet, but they do seem to be reasonably priced compared to the old GSXR's anyway ?
No one on here got one thenI take it ?
