wouldn`t recommend it. car oil have additives which play havoc at times with wet bike clutches. if your lucky you may get away with bad clutch slip. fully sythetic tends to be the worst culprit. stick with proper bike lubricants. will save you a lot of headaches and dosh. you aint saving anything trust me Wink

Don't use "Magnatec" ... it has molybdenum sulphide in it and that may well bugger up your clutch. That's what Mr Yamaha means when he says "Avoid oils woith friction reducing additives"
Having said that, several on here have used Magnatec or fully synthetic with no reported problems.

Any standard car oil that meets the SE, SF or SG spec or has a grade "CD" or higher will do fine: (ie NOT "Car-lube's" cheapest offering).
Asda or Tesco semi-synth are both cheap and good.

If you like your oil to be "reassuringly expensive" then use something with a picture of a motorbike on the label.
Bike oil is simply car-oil with added marketing by suits that sponsor bike-racing. I have yet to see any evidence otherwise.

I remember on the old site someone has always used car engine oil and says the same thing.
Makes you wonder.

It certainly is ... and I choose to use oil from people who tell me what's in their product.
If they sell it in the USA, the dead give-away is the MSDS (Material Data Safety Sheet) . Look under "Clean Water act"

That's the only place that they're FORCED to tell you what's in it and its the same as any modern car oil.

Zinc Salts (that's Zink di-alkyl phosphate, which is in all modern car oils) and some phosphoric acid derivative (detergent).

Carlube 10w40 mineral is SL and CF. No problem there then.

Car oils marked 0w or 5w will have friction modifiers and should not be used.
10w car oil will be fine.

I have used Comma eurolite in all my bikes, but I have to keep a barrel of bike specific stuff in the garage, as I do work on other peoples bikes and they can be a bit fussy. Still it's their money.

Bought my fazer new in Easter 2001

I've run it on fully synthetic all its life (usually get it from Asda or Tesco).

Bikes done 77,000 miles and I've never experienced any clutch slip problems.

Please don't confuse 0w and 5w oils with fully synth.

10w fully synth car or bike oil will be fine in your engine. Although you could save yourself money on oil and spend it on gas.  Big Grin

These bikes are meant to be run on 10w/40 semi synthetic motorbike oil , that's the manual recommended oil anyway.
Brand isn't too much of an issue as long as it's changed at regular intervals, anywhere between 4000-6000 miles, the choice is yours.

This is an old post resurrected, but i do remember using Magnatec before, years ago, i'm not sure if it was in the Fazer or not, but the bike did not like it at all.
I can't remember what the actual issue was but it only lasted about a week in the bike, then when i done a bit of research it does actually say not suitable for motorbikes.

Don't use car oil. The make up is focused on car operating characteristics, rather than bike. Upto u, you bike, Your money. But think first !!
