Thanks, any idea what causes it?

They all make clutch noise in neutral with clutch lever out, but what you describe is different.
Sounds like it might be chain/front sprocket noise. Can you be more specific on location of the noise?

Hi Falcon, the noise sounds like its coming from the front of the engine right hand side.
I don't have any unusual noises coming from the bike when its idling i only get this noise when im slowing down and i pull the clutch lever in.

Strange one, this.
Don't think it's cam chain. Can't think of anything front right inside the engine that would make an intermittent noise either. I'd start by ensuring that the exhaust headers are secure and that you don't have any stones or such caught that might rattle under specific conditions. Check the rear header mount bracket, too ... the weld on that can fail and you could be hearing a reflected noise. Look on the rear of the EXUP housing close by the centrestand pivot. Definitely check that the EXUP is working correctly and the cables properly adjusted. Worn/maladjusted EXUPs can cause all sorts of weird noises. ![]() I'm assuming clutch and gearbox works as it should?

Thanks falcon, will go through the things you have listed.
I had a problem with the gear selection when the bike got warm really difficult to change gear and find neutral. Searched the forum and it did seem to be the plug problem was going to be the cause but when i had a look the plug is in place. I did find the wear marks on the clutch basket and clutch inner that have been mentioned and i filed them down and the gear selection is a lot better now.

How much did you have to file down to remove the wear notches ... ?

Hi it wasn't much to be honest. If you ran your finger over them you could just feel them. Mileage is 16,000, thing is the noise was there before but i do think it has gotten louder since i filed the notches down.

Today i was running the bike on it's center stand i was taking it up to 40 mph then pulling the clutch lever in and letting it slow down in a hope to pinpoint the noise.
It's a difficult noise to pinpoint but it did seen to be coming from the downpipes could it be the exup valve? It almost sounds like there is something in one of the downpipes rattiling about......

I had a rattle simlar to yours that I could not pinpoint and thought it was a clutch issue, turned out to be an exup valve that had worn on the pully end, and it was rattling against the bush. Even though I had serviced every 4K since 15K its now done 60K >: . So get your ear down by the valve on both sides. New (OK used) but good condition exup valve and new bushes, humms like a baby and no rattle.

Thanks gel, I'm going to strip the exup valve down in the next few days and service it to see if that helps.
Can i run the bike with the exup valve out to see if the noise disappears or will i damage something Thanks...

you can run it with it out, it will be louder though.
If you service it and coppaslip it up you may find it will be less rattle noise. at least untill the coppa slip burns off. mine rattles a tiny bit, actualy all this talk of exups lately i think i will give mine a service agin lol

thanks, think i will give it a run with it out if the noise disappears i will be happy because at the moment I'm thinks it could be something more serious like a gearbox or camchain issue....

I had chattering noise a while ago. It turned out to be the the exup valve. The cables had too much free play. Adjusted them and the noise disappeared.

If it's broken, it's not fixed.
