How long is a piece of string?!
Fuel consumption is related to various factors, including mechanical condition of machine, tyre pressure,loading, but mainly its down to the rider. How you read the road & anticipate changing situations/conditions,use of gears,brakes& throttle.
I can get anything from low 30s to approaching 50mpg on my FZS1000-depends how I ride!
One thing is certain however-fuel is never going to become cheaper with rapidly rising demand from developing countries-mainly China & India and thats the actual cost of fuel-not the extortionate additional[size=78%] tax burden imposed on us by the government.[/size]
I used 150Litres less fuel in my "cage" in 2011 compared with 2010 not by driving it any differently but by using it less and riding/walking more.
Its interesting that the only real growth in two-wheeler sales last year took place in the 125cc sector, in response to rapidly increasing rail/bus fares,pump prices and worsening congestion/parking issues.
How about a Euro-emissions compliant replacement Honda 90? A Yammie YBR 125 will ,in the right hands, return over 90mpg.

depends how much u twist the throttle, i get on average on a tank 45-55mpg

I commute and get 55mpg on mostly motorway riding cruising at 75 - 80mph

As said, 45-55MPG. You get better MPG lying flat on the tank even at 60MPH but you  get some strange looks  :o .

Problem is that its a sportsbike engine with a 12:1 compression ratio. In order to avoid pre-ignition (pinking and dieseling) it has to be run very rich.
That means there's not enough air in the charge to burn all the fuel so it throws a lot of fuel unburnt down the exhaust pipe.
If you gould get purple avgas (130 Octane and full of lead) and rejet the carbs accordingly then you could get 90MPG out of it - but you can't. :'(

Now a honda 90 : that burns ALL its fuel: Half the third-world* can't be wrong , so get one!.

* In reality, the third-world all seem to drive round in Hyundai i20s these days, and that's the production operators. The engineers in Penang, where I used to work. all drive round in BMW320s.
Operators used to push-bike, engineers/managers had mopeds.

So i'd be looking at between 45mpg to 50mpg for a 03 fzs600 then???!!!!

You might.... but I get nearer to 60mpg on my 02 FZS600 but then again that's due to my old granny riding style.  :o

Normal 2 journeys to work = 130 miles and last fill up was 9.1 litres.

Mostly motorway and A road riding with a bit of round town.

Mine too returns a consistent 53mpg.
The Fazer has a tank range in excess of 200 miles provided you're brave enough to ignore the warning light on the fuel gauge for a while.

Just did a fill up on mine and averaged 53mpg as well - I mostly use my bike for leisure (basically everything except city riding) plus commuting to university 3 times a week.

I put £20-£25 in the tank on a Monday, cane it around on all roads types and it will easily see 200miles (So nearly a full tank)


Cheaper than my car, also cheaper than when I used to cycle 4 days and drive the other 2!!!

I can squeeze 218 miles out of my tank with some careful filling up. But forget about going fast lol. As soon as i start to play it drops to around 160 miles per tank, But i still get there before my mates on their race bikes due to the fact they get really lousy mpg and need to stop at every second or third garage.
