FZ6 - bargain???
#1
Gents,

FZ6 for sale, £3350 - 2014 plate - interesting!

Questioned it with the dealer, turns out, 2009, first registered in 2014.

12000 miles - 2 owners

Bargain or avoid??  Won't be many Fazers with a 2014 number plate lol

Looks like the paint is flaking off on the front forks, rear tyre is squared off, and the chain looks tight and in need of some lubrication. IIRC, 12k is the valve clearance check too. Probably more of a bargain at £2,800 from a dealer. Check the date on the tyres, might be the originals.

Nope, it's 24k on the FZ6.

Avoid. Looking on Autotrader there are 2 bikes with far less mileage going for much less money -
- https://www.autotrader.co.uk/bike-search...=relevance
But there are issues with both of them aswell, the blue one has been dropped on the left hand side and the black one has marks all over and the rear tyre is underinflated.

The FZ6 is getting long in the tooth now, so personally if you have £3500 to spend, look at the MT07, FZ8 or FZ1 -

2 are private and they may haggle

Look up Autotrader under FZ6 Fazer and use S2 as the Keyword

2008 Dark Blue:

- price too high for age/mileage, needs to be below £3k. Owner is prolly trying to cover the cost of the luggage/topbox - ask if they will remove. Remember 3rd party items do NOT increase the value of the bike.
- check for wear damage from the soft luggage.
- corrosion on the headers
- corrosion on the rad side plates
- dirt or paint damage on the front wheel rim.
- front brake discs looks worn, would have to examine in person.
- to many photos of the same angle with poor exposure. Not enough close up photo's,
- owner doesn’t know how to go around corners, tyres have large chicken strips. This would then suggest the owners commutes only and the tryes might be starting to square off.
- Wasn’t able to check the age/wear of the tyres

2008 Silver:

- custom rad guard has a big dent to the r/h side, ask owner to remove it to show there is no damage to the radiator.
- I can see just a hunt of damage to the crash bung can on the same side, ask why this is.
- some scuff marks to the bottom of the timing cover, check if that’s just wear and tear or actual drop damage.
- scuffs on the same side of the swingarm.
- rear break disc is worn and may need replacing, check width with cheap micrometer to verify it will still have an MOT.
- paint pealing off the rear wheel, this will need touching up to stop it getting worse. Wheel will need a complete repaint eventually.
- lower l/h side of the fairing mount point has a stress crack, this will need a repair to stop it spreading.
- drive chain need a proper clean and lube (owner has been poorly lubed chain in image), check for tight spots, it any found, bike will need a chain and sprocket kit.
- crash bung has crash damage but it pointing the wrong way. I suspected it the bung from the other side that has been swapped around.
- generator cover looks like it has some gravel rash.
- owner appears to done half a job cleaning the left side of the bike compared to the right side.
- gear lever rubber worn need replacing. Likely rear break pedal the same.
- the rear tyre has a date of December 2020, both tyres need to be replaced.

2008 Galaxy blue:

- cant see the engine due to the aftermarket full fairing.
- top of the front fairing non standard - @Grahamm can you confirm?
- r/h rear exhaust hanger loose, misaligned, worn.
- headers have corrosion, fairing need removing and close-up shots of the engine/headers taken.
- front disc/s look to be worn.
- on a side note, out of the 3 bikes this one has no crash protection. (So at a guess a carefully drilled hole in the fairing would be required and standard mushrooms fitted with spacers to protect the aftermarket fairing.)
- out of the 3 bikes, this has the most appropriate price.
- Wasn’t able to check the age/wear of the tyres

Bikes are never worth what the owners think as the price is based on the the value it is to them not the real value.
Always buy with the head do not buy not the heart, it could cost you a fortune.

One of the biggest issues with any FZ6 is the lower rear shock mount seizing and extremely difficult to remove.

The FZ6 suffers corrosion of connectors like many bikes, especially ones over 10 years old.

There has been some Rectifier/Regulator failures, but these I have come across are due to corrosion of connectors.

Best of luck on the hunt Harry

That doesn't look stock, but neither are the side fairings and belly pan, so maybe the owner bought them as a set (could have been after a drop, but you'd have to ask them).

If only there was a post on how to get it out... Wink

The orange S2 looks the pick of the bunch Harry, and in the fastest colour too, with some service history. Well overpriced though. Try making an offer that you would be happy to pay,m minus a bit, see what the reaction is. After all, the bike is sixteen/seventeen years old now

Cheers guys, so great advice!

Spoke to the chap about the blue one, lovely and local too, but something wasn't adding up around the owners and didn't get a good general feel. it's changed hands very quickly for the last 2 owners (neither was a dealer). I was about to pull the trigger on the silver one but it's been sold, but holy moly, you guys don't arf see flaws I don't!!

How about this one?

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/bike-detail...6flrfc%3D1

How about this one? Miles away, but I could train it there and make a day of it, LOL

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/bike-detail...6flrfc%3D1

annoyingly (in a way) it looks like I've sold my bike on Sunday. Means I need to ramp up finding a bike for me sharpish because I occasionally need it for work if either car is in the garage or there is a problem.

I love the look of the FZ8, but I'm worried it will be heavier. I've only ever ridden a 125 CBF and then 2 X red Fazers. I'm worried I won't like the extra weight/feel.

I keep looking at Street Triples, but I don't want to not have a Fazer! You guys have been amazing for years, have very fond memories of rideouts, I just not have a Fazer, just yet...... can I? Find me a sweet Street Triple that I can train it to to collect from Kent ;-)

Very difficult to tell from photos as polish covers a lot of scratches and photos can ofter make them look better.
The second one is not an S2.
The one in Waltham Cross is an S2.
It appears ok, the scratches on the engine bar is more like a fall over than a slide down the road.
Worn rubbers on the levers. Tyres would need to be checked for the date. Check the number of owners. Dsk have wear but be ok. Link on the chain looks like a stiff link and would need to be checked. Would know much about that dealer, you would need to ask locally. It is worth a look and maybe a test ride

OK, so this is looking promising. Waltham Cross Motorcycles are a Suzuki main dealer. Reviews on line seem very good.

Just spoke to them, they are going to send a warts and all video focusing in on any points of interest.

Tyres are 2021 (so I will be looking to replace, that's cool)
He said the chain is very good condition with no tight spots/issues
Scratches on the RHS don't match a trip down the road, more than a drop in the garage, car park etc. He said it's certainly been on its side, but the depth and direction of those scratches doesn't indicate anything major.
Fork seals are bone dry but would be changed if needed

Now, this is the bit that has my interest. I asked about valve clearance check. It's got service history, with services every year of its life but valve checks not done. BUT, he said they always send a bike out with a service to match the recommended service for the bike's age and as a result they will do the valve service check.......sounds like a no brainer doesn't it? I don't expect perfect, it's a 2008 bike at the end of the day. But a good solid bike I can build on, like the tyres, chain etc....

Money is perfect for me, I can get there on the train, seems in good condition for the year. AND it's not blue ;-)
