has anyone managed to disconnect the alarm on a 2001 model, and got it running without, took my alarm off today(meta, so non original Yamaha) but then I was left with 7 black wires all with a silver band on them, one of the wires comes out of the ecu, the others come out of the main harness, 3 are live with ignition on and 3 are not live. Question is what wires need connecting/ taping up to get it running again.
You will need to rejoin the the ECU circuit where it was cut to go through the Meta, which acted as the immobiliser. What wire they've used you've got to figure out using continuity test and elimination.
By the way Meta was Yamaha back/approved and fitted by dealers to new Yams as optional extra.
Later
Have you still got the original alarm sockets on bike ?
If so you just need to connect the right terminals.
Don't know if this will help you. I've just had a look at my 2001 FZS600 that has never had an alarm on from new.
i assume you are referring to the 7 wires under the seat on the drive side.
Plug with 4 wires. A wire loop connects the two wires nearest to the plug catch. Other two wire left open circuit.
Plug with 2 wires. Both wires connected.
Plug with 3 wires (with a bit of my own red tape on). All left open circuit.
hopefully the photo will illustrate it.
