a rare day off yesterday and a good time to crack on with the mighty thou.....the "seal cup" i thought was missing wasn`t :o ...what i was looking at was the "naked seal" that fits between the oil pump bearing and the mechanical seal for the water pump,wear and tear had stripped it of its rubber seal ,obvious when the new seal arrived from FOWLERS (great service again :thumbup ) as for the seal that came with the mechanical seal that i thought was the seal for the oil pump bearing but needing the "seal cup" to fit , this fits on the drive shaft directly behind the impeller ,a rubber seal thats a snug fit in a housing with a moulded in nylon washer which rests on the spring loaded mechanical seal,i missed this one as not listed on FOWLERS but you live and learn , a TOURMAX item, a company i have used before and quality and fit were as good,if not better than original :thumbup ......
assembled the two pump`s and now has a very smooth,dampened action when turned by hand,refitted to bike which was a bit of a fiddle,took many attempts to loop the drive chain around the sprocket and slot the pumps into place but done now,refitted large bore oil pipe with new o rings ( R10 ) oil strainer and then refitted the clutch , not much more to do now but there is a little niggle on my mind....the chain that runs of the back of the clutch basket down to the water/oil drive sprocket seams to be a bit loose, has a guide,tensioner on it and theres not enough slack in it to jump off the sprocket so should be ok....but its niggling me...ive searched you tube but theres not much on there for the fazer,R1 looks the same and ive watched a few from us which have been very good so will search them out again and take a second look before refitting sump and clutch covers ... good reading for sunday morning :lol ...i`ll post some piccies in a minute, might make things a bit clearer [size=78%] [/size]

When you ordered the seal kit 11H-12438-10 was this what you got?
The oil seal you ordered No 3 3 is just a bare seal. hi unfazed , glad you understood my early morning ramblings :lol ...yes,as your picture shows,the one on the right (top picture) is what i`am calling the "mechanical seal" this sits in the water pump housing and is the last one to go in , the one on the left (top picture) is the one i confused with the one which covers the oil pump bearing which goes in before the "mechanical seal"...the seal on the left (top picture) is the one that slides on the shaft and into a housing behind the impeller...the kit on its own dos`nt include the oil seal to cover the oil pump bearing no3 on fowlers excellent website...

The seal with the nylon insert on the left of the picture is not shown on any service manual. Same seal kit is used in many Yamahas, Kawasakis and a few Hondas

Tyres are on, waiting for some Loctite bearing fit, which should be here tomorrow. Then back to the tyre fitters for balancing. I'd never used Oponeo for tyres before, but got the Roadtec 01's for £205 with £14.50 for fitting. Quite happy with that. Dragon Rally this weekend so nothing much will get done until Monday I expect.

braved the storm and had a couple of hours in the garage ,sump on ,clutch cover on, changed the oil filter and filled with fresh oil.....still not bought the anti-freeze :rolleyes .......thought i would start it briefly just to check for leaks....and.....no spark :o
FOC.......what have i forgotten :'( spins over ok but no spark at the plug.had enough of the rain hammering on the garage roof so came inside,toasty warm and a mug of tea......

Definitely not the side stand switch, the side stand earth is used to control the Starter cut out relay and the neutral switch bypasses the side stand switch when the bike is in neutral with the side stand down, anything wrong here and it would not turn over on the starter button. This leaves a stuck Tip over or disconnected Coil leads

cheers UNFAZED...thats saved me a bit if time,whilst i had the rear mudguard of i taped the tip sensor to the frame so i could still run the engine,didnt take much movement to stop the engine running,bikes still jacked/winched at a funny angle so i could access the sump,could just need putting back on the floor to fire up.....

had a few mins out in the garage tonight, looks like someone may have broken into my garage,no damage and i cant see how they got in,for some strange reason they un-bolted the tip sensor,turned it upside down and bolted it back on ......spotted it straight away,turned it over and the old girl fired up first press of the button......bl**dy kids

Sometimes I just stop and listen and I can hear them giggling-little pointy eared bastards.
I don't do rain or threat there of. dry rider only with no shame.
