Buying a 58 plate FZ1 Fazer, what should I look out for?
#1
Hi guys and gals, I'm looking at a very nice conditioned, low mileage 08 FZ1 Tuesday, what should I be looking out for apart from the obvious checks, it also has a full service history?

Depends how intrusive you can be ? I personally would put it in diagnostic mode and see if its had any past error codes. Most people would forget to clear them ( or simply not know how too ) so can be a good indicator of any past issues.
Check header bolts to see what kind of condition they're in, it's not a deal breaker if they're rusty but if they're nice and clean then give a good indication of how the meticulous the previous owner was about maintenance.
Ask about any unseen mods like air box modification or decat as quite a few of these bikes have had it done but then had the power commanders sold before sale. If that's the case they run dangerously lean and youd never know

Really there isnt much specific to this bike that I can think of as they dont have much that goes wrong with them other than issues that arise from poor maintenance

Generator, Stator/Rotor failure issues. Check out the old posts on this and other Fazer forums. Think it only effects earlier models, Yamaha updated it on later models.

Thanks to you both for the advice, I will bare it mind whilst looking at it.
If it's a successful purchase I'll post up some pics!

I've owned my  2008 FZ1 just over 3 years now other than give it a good service every spring It's never missed a beat. Just check all the things you would normally check, but do check the header studs and nuts if they seize I sheered one  they are awkward (a b*****d) to drill out and hellicoil.

There was an unofficial recall, get the chassis number and check with Yamaha UK.

So after checking out all the things suggested above I bought the bike, and may I just say I got a real bargain and a stunner of a bike!
So let me introduce...., Melisandre (Red witch from GoT), she has a bit of an evil streak!
