ULEZ and Euro 3
#1
Does any one know if a motorcycle can be made to be Euro 3 compliant..?

I found this, but there is zero mention of motorcycles- https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/low-emi...t-a-filter

As far as I know only bikes registered '07 onwards are exempt. Prior to that you pay the same as a car.
Those are my principles...if you don't like them I have others.

I seem to remember the link you've posted when the lez was first being introduced. My motorhome didn't comply and would have cost approx £1700 as part of a bulk purchase with other owners. Selling it was a cheaper option. It's only now with ulez that motorcycles have stupidly been included. Could be a business opportunity if someone could come up with a gadget that would allow compliance.

Saw on the news earlier that petrol/diesel Uber cars are now being made to pay congestion charges from next year.
That's fair isn't it?
Wasn't it the whole point, to reduce polution?

There wouldn't be any mention. It refers to fitting particulate/soot filters to diesel vehicles that were manufactured without them.

As far as I'm aware, if you live inside the North Circular and you own a Boxeye/Foxeye/Early thou you've had it unless you're prepared to pay the exorbitant daily fee. You're on borrowed time.

A quick input of your reg. number on the relevant part of the ulez website will soon let you know if you're exempt or not :'( .

It's a shame they can't eliminate knife crime as efficiently as they can eliminate Fazers. There's money involved though isn't there.

You've either got to go older or newer. Pre 1978 is exempt as is post 2007. If you're in roughly that 30 years in between you're stuffed.

The Historic Vehicle exemption is rolling I believe, so if you put them on SORN and wait 20 years the first Boxeyes become exempt.

The Foxeye Fazer might last that long but I certainly will not

A 1990's/early 2000's Honda Cub four stroke is banned/subject to daily emissions charge whilst a rip-stonking Kawasaki H2 750 two-stroke triple is exempt from the charge :lol

I remember a mate of mine on a H1 500 Kwacker taking off from some traffic lights along the Embankment in 1976. I suspect the smoke still hasn't cleared  Smile

It is based on declared emissions, not strictly the age or euro rating. Age/Euro rating could be considered a guideline for vehicles that will be reasonably guaranteed to be exempt as that class meets the emissions requirement.

If you get your bike or other vehicle tested/certified and can show TfL that it meets their emissions requirements, then it can be exempted. DVLA will need to add the emissions figure to your registration, and then TfL will exempt it from the charge.

I think I read recently that if you are willing to do so, you can even apply to TfL to exempt an entire model of vehicle rather than an individual, if you can show that model meets the requirement.

Just reading an article in the newspaper about this subject. It says....'It is expected that the applicable age of vehicles will move with time, so in 2022 it will be cars older than 2016 that are affected by the zone and so on'.

I am in the process of communicating with Yamaha to get a definitive answer about the exhaust emissions for my Fazer thou.
I have stated that due to the high bike theft problem I refuse to take my MT10 into London.
So far they have been very helpful and quick to reply.
I will keep you posted on the result.

So as I suspected the FZS1000 is technically Euro3 compliant and all we need is a vert to continue to ride out bikes in London -
