Still no wiser on the the down pipes & black widow are talking out of their a**e , because when you remove the jubilee style black clamp on the original  & remove the silencer the link pipe then attaches to that end without the gauze gasket inside & the other connects to the silencer.

Look at this picture, where the black downpipes end is where the link pipe connects & then connects to the silencer the original silencer comes with the link pipe & silencer as one piece, hope this helps.

Maybe. I thought the last ones were unpainted stainless but may be wrong. Given the last ones are over 15 years old now it is unlikely to be original.

Stainless painted black on the Foxeyes.

Nope steel painted on foxeyes same as boxeye, only stainless on FZ6.

I read it ages ago here in this Bennetts buyers guide in the 'Any Updates?' section. Must be bad info.

My original downpipes are still like new with all the factory paint still attached.

The original downpipes for 98 & 03 share the same part number & same price for new ones, £1,204.68 if Yamaha had later made them in stainless the price would have been nearly half the price of the bike new.

deeteefifty, hope that sorted your queries & you get a new silencer & link pipe sorted soon.

Not sure all info is correct,

Exhaust angle lowered to accommodate longer pillion pegs?

Deep Reddish Yellow Cocktail wasn't available in the u.k in 98 only red or black, when I bought mine in 98 a customer paid the dealer to have one sprayed yellow.

A magnet sticks to my down pipes.
That would confirm that they're plain steel under the paint wouldn't it?.

Some of these websites are bad for that.
There's a couple that don't give the choice of it being black, and another site doesn't list it as a 2000 SP model which it blatantly is, if i use the reg number. Says it's a 98 i think.

YamFazFan, lower grade stainless can be magnetic, try some knives and forks, probably should be classed as rust resistant.

Thats right about the lower grade stainless sticking to a magnet but sometimes you can tell with a magnet that although it sticks, it is not so strong a stick/grab as plain steel is. Try a definite plain steel straight after to see if there is a difference.
To prove about some stainless being magnet, try some cheap kitchen sinks and you may find that the bowl won't stick but the drainer does.
I don't do rain or threat there of. dry rider only with no shame.

Just tried the sink/drainer and a magnet won't stick to any part, but it does grip every piece of cutlery I've tried in the drawer that's marked 'Stainless Steel'.

Stainless is heavier than mild steel too. You can go about with a set of scales if it helps.
