Exhaust identity
#1
This'll be a standard pub quiz question. Can anyone identify the makers of these exhausts. There is a standard silencer on and it's blowing a bit, the previous owner put some exhaust wrap around the silencer front pipe section for the MOT. If I need to get a new silencer I'd prefer to match it to the front pipes if there's no decent original Yamaha ones around.

could be motad as they are not black widow or delkavic or lextec as their is no webbing at the collector

Their not Motad, as there's no balance pipes between the down pipes. Older Black widows didn't have springs at the collector but new ones do so my guess is Black widow.

As far as I'am aware all aftermarket end cans with the correct link pipe should slide onto your aftermarket down pipes.

Thanks daviee and bandit, I'm going cross eyed looking for same type

They look the same as mine, but i have no idea what they are either  :lol

As said though, it's mainly about the link pipe, not all end cans have the same diameter. I have a Quill and a Moto GP can that need different size link pipes to fit the downpipes.

TBH, all downpipes will fit. They are all designed to replace the original downpipes using the standard can.

They could be the original pipes. They are not Delkevic.

Weren't all original pipes black?

Maybe. I thought the last ones were unpainted stainless but may be wrong. Given the last ones are over 15 years old now it is unlikely to be original.

Thanks darrsi and bbrown1664. The pipes are all welded with no separate sections, I'll give them a proper clean up to see if there are any faded markings. The outlet diameter is 45mm and they're in sound condition, if the silencer is beyond repair at least I have the outlet size to go off for replacement. The combination of the pipes and silencer has the engine running nice and smooth, very quiet (maybe a bit too quiet) but I wouldn't want to upset the balance for a bit noise.

deeteefifty, changing the silencer & link pipe won't effect balance only new down pipes will, as for the noise just make sure you by a road legal one with a removable baffle (db eater) which when removed can alter the noise level.

Just remember the shorter the silencer the noisier it will be,more so with the baffle removed, if you like the sound of the standard one get one of about the same length/diameter & when you remove the baffle it won't be to loud.

My Moto GP end can is noisy as feck, but legal with the baffle in.
Take the baffle out and the bike runs poorly, and will wake the dead.

I much prefer the subtle rumble of the Quill, but it still has a lovely roar when you give the bike some welly.

I stuck a Pipe Werx stainless, standard length, on my Foxeye and it looks & sounds superb and that's with the baffle in.

Good quality product at a fair price.

Thanks everyone. I got a reply from Black widow exhausts. They said it's not one of theirs as they've always had a seperate link pipe, mine doesn't. A bit more cleaning uncovered what looks like black paint (but could be burnt on oil/muck). Maybe they are originals that have been unblacked?

No, originals are mild steel, not stainless.

Nope steel painted on foxeyes same as boxeye, only stainless on FZ6.

deeteefifty, can you post a picture of the exhaust side view, end can (silencer) to where the pipe goes under the frame, have not seen aftermarket set that doesn't need a link pipe only original which they ain't.
