Gen 1 Leaking Oil. Help!
#1
Good afternoon Gents.

First post and unfortunately its one seeking a little help. I did a quick search but couldnt find anything so I apologise if this has already been posted.

So I purchased the bike in 2015 from another forum member and since then it has been a beautifully reliable machine. Sadly after a recent trip to Ireland I noticed a liquid burning off the header pipes at standstills accompanied by an unwelcome smell. The leak seems to be coming from the left hand side of the bike but a quick removal of the front sprocket cover only revealed lots of grimey oil and not much in the way of understanding where the leak is coming from.

It might be worth stating that before the trip the bike had an oil and filter change and at no point did the oil warning light come on and the inspection window is as it should be.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance for he help.

Mark.

Are you sure it's oil? How did it get on the header pipes, is what I'd be asking myself. Certainly not from around the front sprocket region. Could it be coolant? Checked that level? Leaking pipe fixings around the rad, or the rad itself?

Hope not but it could be this issue - http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,20947

Obvious thing would be to clean the engine so you can see where the leak comes from.

Check the oil sump plug, is it tight, or have they cracked the sump?

Hi, I had similar leak but around the oil level sensor. The IPC showed them as an assembly, anyone here have the dimension of that Oring or know any other bike models that used same Oring for oil level sensor?

Check that it not leaking from the newly fitted oil filter!

Did you do the oil change or a workshop?
Was a new sump plug washer fitted? Old one's that have been re-used can weep. The oil leak looks worse than it is.
