Derbyshire Camera Vans Colour

Anybody know what colour Derbyshire speed camera vans are?
Think I saw one on a bridge overlooking the A6 duel carriageway north of Buxton.
Are they clearly marked?  Can they get you off bridges?

Don't know about the colours but I do know for a fact that they can get you from a bridge.

Hi Andy, they've got marked and unmarked versions the unmarked is plain white with a camera logo front and side, the marked ones are a bit more obvious with red and yellow stripe decals.

Sounds like Andy has a ticket on the way. I should not judge as think I may have got one in my van coming into Aberearon in Wales on Thursday, 35 or 6 in a 30 limit. Hope the camera was not operating  :'(

These Vans should be clearly marked as Speed Camera vans with the fluorescent colours (just like static cameras are brightly coloured, like Gatso).
Bit sneaky if they "go undercover"... however nothing is surprising these days (with all the taxes and other ways we get stung, running motor vehicle(s) on UK roads).

I thought that was true if you've not had the 'notice of intended prosecution' within a certain time (14days?) you've got away with it. (unless it's  a rental or lease vehicle.)
Also if they fail to prosecute you within 6months you've also gotten away from it.

Although it's been a long  since I had any tickets (I did get up to 11 points), I've avoided 2 tickets. Due to the length of time they took to catch up with me. :-)
(change addresses, company/lease company giving my wrong address, etc)

Fortunately I'm now cleaned and reformed and don't do the 70k a year that I used to. I've not been 'had' for over 6yrs. :-)

Do people still buy Speed Camera Detectors?

I was impressed with how they actively detected radar/laser... however these days so many more Cameras installed no longer use these "old" technologies.
Although alot of these detectors also utilise GPS, plus a downloadable camera database, so they "know" the places of the cameras, and alert you (with no active detection).

Bit like buying a UHF Radio to listen (eavesdrop) on various frequencies, when most organisations have now switched to Digital !

ref your last post mate, my lad does a lot of driving and has 6pts, is there anything on the market you know of that will give him a heads up to the camera's/vans?
needs his licence for his job (I hear you all already :lol) but he's under time pressures to get there and get the job done. Company don't give a shit either way and just expect the work done at whatever cost

Active detection, Valentine One is the leading detector, cant get much better (premium pricetag, does it all).

Snooper offer mid-range devices. As a lot of camera types cant be actively detected (ANPR / average speed cameras). A device that offers regular access (download) of a camera (gps) database, offers decent all round protection.

There's a handful of Map Apps for the smartphones too, that offer access to a speed camera (gps) database. Might be worth looking into, as a one stop solution, although there'll be no active detection.

If you get zapped by a laser camera (ie a Police handheld unit), you have less than a second to react to your speed - by which point they'd already have your speed recorded anyway.

The BEST way to avoid getting caught is not to speed in the first place...

I run a snooper in my Merc it works but gives you false warning sometime, for example automatic doors on shops or petrol station set it off. It does not recognise speed average cameras but they don't get you straight away like a Gatso or Trevelio. Road works = averaging  cameras, foccing great big yellow cameras on yellow poles = averaging cameras it is not rocket science. I update my Snooper on line once a month and it seems to work fine. Nothing is fool proof though the only guaranteed way of not getting a ticket is .....................

Tell his company to fec off and stick to the speed limits whilst on company time. They wont pay the fine or for a chauffer for him when he loses his licence.

thanks lads, we all know to keep to the limit but we don't all the time and its a chance we take when we have a blast but work constraints are different. BB I hear what you're saying but if the job don't get done then they get rid and bring people in who will get the job done, no matter what. I'm trying to give me lad a half chance by getting him some detection as I know he'll continue to break the limit at times when behind schedule

does that first one mentioned....Valentine one....pick up EVERY detector/speed trap/mobile speed gun/fixed camera then?

Speeding in a van.. Does it really get you there that much quicker? I live in the South East / London. You can drive around like your hair is on fire or drive chilled out and it doesn't really make much difference it just moves you a few cars down the road.


I used to drive like a nutter, as fast as was safely possible everywhere, due to work pressure. Until I found myself stood in Wakefield magistrate  court with no legal support from my company (cost me £400 for a brief and £400 in fines) and instructions that if I got a ban my boss would fire me.
