What have you done to your FZS600 bike today
I've hooked up the 400 headlamp to a battery and tried to see the pattern.. But I can't really make out if it's left hand side vs right hand side. Is there an easy test I can do to check? I can't find the serial number on the headlamp either. All the numbers are identical to the one installed on the bike already. (but the reflectors and bulbs are obviously different.

Apparently the 400 Boxeye headlamp reflector and setup is much, much better than the 600 Boxeye.

My understanding is that both of the bulbs (2 X H7 twin filament bulbs ) on the 400 Boxeye are the same as the 600 foxeye, so both bulbs are H7 and the same so both beams are on by default on the 400 headlight set up, but again if my understanding is right (Please correct me if i am not) that they still fall short of the Foxeye head lamps because of the foxeyes larger reflector and better design.

The bulbs on a 600 are H4 high beam and H1 low beam, the 400 is 2 H4's.  On the 400 the both bulbs are on for low and high unlike the 600which has H1 for low beam and H4 for high beam and only the high beam filament works.  The reflectors on the 600 are also only low/high beam for each side/bulb.  Even when the 600 is modded so both are on, its still a big trade off as the high beam reflector has to be lowered to stop dazzling on coming, which then means loss of high beam.  The 400 has dual reflectors and all filaments on the bulbs work.

Quite why the 600 has such a piss poor set up is beyond me just penny pinching perhaps.

According to what I can decipher there is no left/right headlamp for Japan.

This site lists 4YR-84310-00-00 as part number, with 5DM-84310-00-00 as the replacing headlamp.

https://en.impex-jp.com/catalogs/moto/ya...71876.html

The GBR headlamp uses the part code 5DM843101000, while the rest are 5DM843100000.

when i took my fairing off and pulled apart the headlights i was shocked that it was a h1/h4 setup and instantly took a dislike to it
i run dominator headlights in a stacked posistion using good h4's in both
the bike had been dropped by previous owner and the fairing was cracked and frame twisted so it was the easiest option for better lights
-wish i knew then what i know now

Japan drives on the left the same as we do so there wouldn't be a different part number for the 400 headlight as it was only ever made for their home market.

Why?

The EU regs at the time only allowed a single dipped beam light. H1 or H4 makes no difference. 55w is 55w.
The best fix is HIDS but if you want dual lights on for dipped it is a single cable to run from under the tank to the H4 top connector.

That might be so. But the replacement for the out-of-production FZ400 headlamp is the same number as the standard headlamp, not the GBR headlamp.

Sure thing. Previous owner had a bit of a tumble so I repainted them with rattlecans.

Very Nice  8) I would get some for my  :faz but it's that Vivid Coctail Red paint job which is a complete Foccing pain in the arse to colour match and I wouldn't want to have to payout to re-paint the whole bike. However, I will keep it in mind for if I ever had a fall and it had to be re-painted any way, but fingers crossed that won't happen  :lol

Changed the brake pads front.
I could probably have driven 10.000km more on the old ones. But they just didn't feel right.
New ones feel so much better and has better stopping power.

Now... should probably replace the brake lines as well..
