Restrictor info needed

So I'm on an A2 licence at the moment and would be very great full if any of you good folk could tell me what deal is with proof of restriction? Do I need a certificate? Can I legally fit it myself and write up a very myself etc..
I have no problem fitting myself just need info about legality and certificate side of things cheers all!

When i was on A2, the old A2 i was never asked for the certificate from my insurer but i had it done by a shop to i could get the document for it to be legal, it was a pretty big con as they the kit is some washers in the carb (ER5 ten years ago).


So you could do it legally and have your bit paper for insurance purposes (if needed) and to keep it all above board, or you could look to fit yourself, not sure if the police would have to prove its unrestricted or if in anyway you not having the paperwork could lead to bother if ever stopped.


Have you seen the other problem that you might have? The FZS600 is stated in some places to be 95bhp, i am sure the current law says you are only allowed to 47bhp and that cannot be more half restriction, so any bike over 94bhp is not A2 compliant. Of course it all depends on where you look and who you ask.

We've been through this before on here and as far as i can remember it's okay on an A2 licence.

Worst case scenario if you were ever to have issues is get the bike on a dyno, even unrestricted, and i think you'll find it doesn't go near 95bhp anyway.

Yamaha say 93.7 so that sounds accurate, the other links are all external and say 95 so maybe just rounded up for the publications. I think it will be ok.

In regards to the fzs600 being Ok to restrict, I sat my A2 test on a restricted  fzs600 so there can't be any issue with it being legal for A2. My bike at the moment is not restricted but just wanted to know the ins and outs of who is legally authorised to fit the restrictors and do you need proof i.e., getting stopped by coppers or can I fit myself and be all above board and legal

No problems, a few mates have had problems when looking at Fazers for A2 so thought i'd mention, maybe it was an older problem thats now sorted. 


The legality is a grey area, for the certificate (old style) it had to be fitted by a garage and cost a bomb. Not sure on the getting stopped if they police would just check you have a licence and not know about the type. If you were in an accident and the bike was found to be unrestricted then you may find problems, but would they check? I am sure most insurance places don't even ask about restriction, or that's what i found, but could be different now as you could now be A2 for years.

I used to run faster 19yrs ago too, that figure is irrelevant now!  :lol
