My right hand fork seal is leaking, noticed it this morning upon arrival to work. I can't get it replaced until Saturday, is it ok to ride to work still? It's 10 miles trip each way.

As long as it's a thin coat on leg & not pi**ing out you should be ok.

Yeah, been watching the weather forecasts all day, it's not looking good tomorrow as far as snow's concerned. I'm gonna get a workmate to pick me up in the morning, as I really don't want my bike stranded at work. They're hinting it could start late afternoon "if" it happens, but then again over night.

My forks had a slight leak when I got them and I did about 10k miles on them no problem. Only changed them this some during a full service. I made a dodgy fork seal tool with two pieces of split plastic pipe one inside the other with a bike jubilee clip around the lot. It worked a treat.

prise up the dust seal and cut a strip of cloth about a inch wide by about 4 inches long cover it in grease and pack it into the fork where the seal is push the dust seal back down and wipe any excess grease away pump the forks a few times and clean any grease that shows on the leg then your good to go i have done this many times and it works a treat , i have had years out of forks with this done and no more leaks . i do this now to every bike as the light smear of grease that is wiped on with the cloth lubes the seal , since i have started doing this i have never had a fork seal go , been doing it for about 30 years red rubber grease is about the best for it , it is worth a try so get you by till you get a chance to replace them

Thanks all, i will make my own seal cleaner tool with a bit of old plastic transparency sheet I have and if i am not able to stop the leakage after that I will see about getting seals replaced. Garage wants £170 to do the pair.
If you've never done fork seals before this link will help,if you have the tools/Haynes manual for torque settings,10w fork oil is std grade & oil level from top of fork tube to oil is 121mm.

its only a 2 hour job from riding into your garage to riding away again. Not difficult to do either. Be brave and have a go yourself. The worst that will happen is you have the legs off the bike and don't have to pay the workshop for half the labour.

Especially this time of year. Bike shops have mechanics twiddling their thumbs and should grab work with a discount
