Action cams
#1
I am looking for an action cam and I have narrowed it down to either a Contour Roam 3 or an iOn Air Pro 3, anyone used either of these or could they recommend something of a similar value (under £100 on Amazon) and preferably not a Go Pro!

Cheers!

I have just replaced my old Chili Tech with a Drift Stealth, works well and easy to set up, worth a look.

Also had a Chilli which did ok for a few years. Just replaced with this - the HD makes a world of difference. Size is perfect for top mount with sticky pads = no buffeting/drag & 2.5+hrs on one charge. Love it. Big Grin

I have a Go-Pro Hero 3 Silver works OK.
I have had it about 4 years now, about a year ago I had an email from Go-Pro telling me there was a firmware update that would iron out a couple of bugs that had been detected, I personally had never noticed any bugs, but, duly updated said Go-Pro only to find that after update camera would sometimes not switch on and when it did it froze after a couple of mins recording and I had to remove the battery to switch it off.

I went to the Go-Pro website trying to find a email address so I could contact them and ended up having an on-line chat with one of their technical team, the chap was most helpful and asked me to try the update again, but I told him I had tried that two more times since the original update and nothing had changed.
Without hesitation he said that as it was working fine before the recommended update that they would either fix the camera or send me a new unit, he gave me all the returns details, I told him that I had had the camera for about 3 years and was out of guarantee, at that point he said no matter the camera would be fixed free of charge or replaced.
I sent the camera off the next day and within 2 to 3 weeks a brand new camera arrived on my door with 2 new batteries to pay for my postage.
Now that is good service and  a company who values its customers.

Would I buy another Go-Pro? probably not as it is an expensive piece of kit (Mine was £300 plus 4 years ago) and it is quite bulky, one good thing in its favour is that it is waterproof down to 40 meters, I go snorkeling in Crete most years and it great for filming under water.
Might be useful if i ever ride in Wales as I heard it rains a lot there.  :lol

I got myself an Eken H9 from Aliexpress.com.  £40 delivered from China in around 10 days.  They use the same fittings as a go pro.  Ignore the stuff about 4k, they don't, but the 1080 and 720 are very good.  Buy from one of the sellers with lots of the blue gems to show good feedback.

You can buy them with different options too, extra batteries, harness etc etc but they all seem to come with loads of fixings, can even get a case to hold it all in.

I've been pleased with mine.
