When does the fuel light come on, on your bike
Mine doesn't come on until the needle is just past the empty mark.

If you want to check your own, run it dry, noting the milometer when the light comes on, but carry a fuel can with enough to get you to a garage...that's what I did.

If it ain't broke... hit it harder..

My bike has a multi gauge fitted and when it reaches 4L remaining the original fuel light comes on.
If I fill up straight way I get between 16 and 16.5L in. Tank is 21 L but as we all know the last 1L is a pain to get in. I generally get between 145 and 180 miles before fuel light, depending on type of riding and load.

On my normal commute, the fuel light comes on at about 160~170 miles and if I fill it instantly, it takes about 15 liters. If I run to 200miles on the odometer, it takes 18~19 liters. It has a 21 liter tank.

Thanks for reply's
As I had the clocks apart for white dials to be added I decided to set my fuel gauge to read empty with 5lts left in tank.

5 ltrs allows for me being stupid and not noticing Im on empty. And as it makes no real difference, as in its not a reserve better to give myself a bit more time.
Also planning to ride in France and Spain next year. I have done a lot of driving over there and when off the main roads it can be hard finding a petrol station.

Probably wouldn't work to well for me though as if the fuel light doesn't mean "think about getting fuel now!" then I would start to ignore it.

Fuel light stays the same just the amount left when needle on empty

The needle pointing to E stays the same, the fuel light says I need to do something about it.

The needle now points to empty with 5Ltrs left in tank, I haven't changed the amount of fuel left when light comes on. Don't know if you could, but I'm happy to leave it as it is. |
