Hi guys.

Just as I think I have it all running great my trusty fazer poses me another problem. Hopefully an easy fix and advice from you guys will help.

Riding to work the other day. And the bike all of a sudden starts running rough. Lack of power and very unresponsive to throttle. When pulling away from stationary had to give it plenty.

On touching the down pipes, 1 and 4 were toasty, 2 and 3 were cool to touch. All points to a coil fault am I right?

Had a play with the plugs under the seat. And tested it. All is back to normal. But what should I do to fix? New coils or trim the wires?

personally i'd be looking at the rubbers between the carbs and the head-these perish, and then a carb balance, but i am most definatly not a mechanic, but thats where id start looking, fuel to air mixture is the picture i have in my head.

If it was just one cylinder cold I'd suggest trimming the wires, but if it is both cylinders it suggests the problem is upstream.

It sounds like a connection problem if you've checked the connectors and it's now fine. I think there are spade connectors on the coils, perhaps give them a pinch with some pliers and a spray of wd-40.

You can check the coil resistances with a multimeter, it's in the Haynes manual under the diagnostics, but it sounds like you've sorted it.

By all means check you carb rubbers, but it's normally the outer ones (1&4) that go first.

Cheers guys. Yeah the connectors just plug in. And shoogling them about appeared to fix the issue. But see how long it lads before I give in.
