Hi fellas i have recently bought an 03 fazer thou 65k miles(cheap)nice condition -runs sweet -pulls like a train. Now for the niggle-when i bought it i took it for a couple of miles and all was well or so i thought-i took it out today did a loveley 80 miles through the lakes no problems at all until i got home as bike was ticking over on my drive i could hear a distinct rattle from the clutch housing/cover i pulled the clutch lever in an the noise changed pitch/quietened somewhat--i left it for a couple of hours started the bike no noise--is it just the oil being thinner when hot or maybe something more ?(oh had no problems with clutch slipping or changing gear throughout the day )if anyone can throw some light on the subject i would be most grateful cheers Stu--

Is it a rattle or more of a rumble?. Many Japanese 4 cylinder bike have a clutch rumble when ticking over, which reduces when you pull in the clutch. Balancing the carbs and setting the tickover to 1100 revs when good and hot will reduce it
I think they all do this, certainly mine has since I've owned it (7 years now).
Thanks for taking the time chaps --the noise isnt a metallic rattle its definatly a rumble which changes tone on pulling in the lever--ill get out later today and see if it still does the same cheers Stu-

dinger, to quote a mechanic friend who services BMWs "They all do that sir" :lol
As I said low tickover and unbalanced carbs make it sound worse.
"They all do that sir" was what the beemer mechanic said to me when I queried a top gear whine on my GS1150.The gearbox completely shat itself on the way home from last years Bol d'Or. The upside being the money I got for the broken BM went towards my Fazer, so all good really. :lol
Whizz kid sitting pretty on his two wheeled stallion.
Not comparing like with like really. :lol BMW to Yamaha :lol
That's a coincidence Robbo, I shat myself on the way home from the Bol last year too.. :lol
Oh forgot to say mine rumbles too, all jap fours do it.
Clutch rumble is common, almost every bike I've had has done it VFR750, VFR800, Triumph sprint st included
Cheers fellas at least i know its not a problem can ride with confidence thanks for taking time out to reply Stu-
