Toshiba Laptop Charger Help
#1
I am in need of a replacement charger for a toshiba satellite C660d-1c7, its defiantly the charger - well actually the cable from constant bending has split and is shorting.
My problem is trying to find a reputable supplier - looked on amazon and they seem to be fake/dodgy and blow up, found a couple of UK laptop R us type places but when looking into them further they all seem like knock -offs.

So I need to tap into the focer font of knowledge of a trustworthy place to get a replacement charger please

Amazon is a minefield... lots of totally convincing pictures of OEM supplies, only to find the item is a fake death trap.
The daft thing is, there's no reason for a decent one to cost much... they're made in their millions.
Whatever you choose, check the CE mark- if the two letters are next to each other, rather than as if they're made from two circles spaced to touch, then it's nothing to do with European standards.

what's the volts, amps etc of the one you've got.  I might be able to find a "spare" one at work.

Name rings a bell, think I bought a battery off them years ago.
Think you need to be a little more trusting fella, not everyone's out to get you.

It says
output 19v 2.37A
and has a 2 pin figure of eight input on the mains side but the plug to unit figure of eight part is ok
to laptop is a 5.5 x 12mm barrel to take a 2.5pin

I've bought a few off eBay before. Tend not to last as long as the OEM ones but for the price I don't mind. As long as you get one with the correct pin size and rating your laughing.

The reason for my caution is that its my daughters laptop and she quite often leaves it on with the charger plugged in and I don't trust dodgy ones not to burn down the left wing of Sharp hall ( I keep my bike in that part of the estate )

Its un repariable as the cable has split right next to the barrel plug from constantly being bent at a too sharp angle. And its an inner insulated core with the other wire wrapped around it, a bit like a coax cable bothe inner and outer insulation is split

Not a problem, I have repaired plenty of them like that. The plug you buy and be opened. Cut off the old plug strip back sheath and connect the inner covered cable to centre section of the plug and the outer wire to the outer side of the plug. I usually put some shrink wrap over the connections in the plug to ensure they do not touch and screw the cover back on. Costs less than a fiver

Yep, some you screw on like that, but that is not available in all types.

Some you solder ,some you can crimp and/or solder.

I usually use the soldered ones

But all I use shrink wrap on all.

Depending on the user, I might fill it with silicone once tested.
