Crash bars / engine guards

Im in the market for some FZS 600 1998 crash bars just incase and thers many different styles and choices, whitch do people thinks the best and wheres the cheapest place to buy them .

Work well, and I can confirm they do the job when you hit the deck. Last spill, I smashed fairing and headlight, but these little bars kept the engine all good and without a mark. Do check ebay.de, as I picked up mine off there for around £40 quid brand new. They are genuine Yammy, but not the only Yammy ones you can get. I believe there's larger ones they did too. Also I think they came in Chrome too.

I had the renntec ones on my 600, I thought they looked OK, gave me somewhere to rest my feet as well :lol

Are tidy and give good protection, but hard to get now.

They save the rad in a tumble and won't touch the road before the foot pegs.

Unfortunately we can always allow for the pure stupidity of others,
My last tumble was because a fellow pulled out of a side road without looking when I was less 10 yards from him doing 20mph on a damp road.
Two choices hit him or the soft ditch and fall over, I choose the ditch and he paid for the damage

I had an argument with a salesman at one of the local steelers that many of the crash bungs etc the sell these days look designed to do more harm than good. There was this 600 race rep with bungs that were fitted on bolts fixed to the radiator brackets, in the event of an off you'd loose your rad straight away, sales man said they were just for looks??????????

There was a crowd of us standing there gob smacked, salesman didn't hang around for our replies lol

I think the problem is they don't spread the load over several mount points like the engine bars do, they look better but because of their design you could end up with a twisted frame instead of a damaged engine casing

I guess it'll depend on the make up of the bungs too. I previously had some stock Yammy ones (that poke through the genuine belly pan). Dropped the bike a few times on them (all fairly low speed mind) - each time the mounting bracket for the bobbins just bent back, leaving frame fine.
