Adjusting TPS
#1
I followed instructions to adjust my TPS today. When I disconnect the TPS and reconnect my rev counter goes to 3k and drops back to 0k. I turn the TPS and it goes up to 10k and drops back to 0k. I cant get the rev counter to show anything other than 3k or 10k. I seem to remember the rev needle stays on the position and does not drop back to 0k after 1 second or so. Does anybody know what is going on?

It was Pat's site I used. The rev counter did not respond as it should have. I might give it a go as it is and maybe try Ivan's method of adjustment. Because the rev counter kept jumping to3K I am wondering if the TPS if faulty?

Hi Shaun Smile

Are you disconnecting/connecting with the ignition ON?  If so, that's probably the issue.

Ignition OFF, disconnect TPS, Ignition ON, then reconnect.

Hi Mike,  I was doing in wrong. Pats site clearly says turn ignition on, disconnect TPS reconnect then reconnect TPS, the REC counter now shows TPS adjustment mode. It's a bit of a bugger because I need to take the tank cover off and lift tank etc. to get at connector.

Thanks for the heads up. Might have saved me changing the TPS.

Mike, I have just tried to set the rev counter using the method you suggest but the result is the same, the rev counter jumps between 0k and 3k and back to 0k. Does this sound like a defective TPS? I have also noted the top section of the TPS housing is broken

Could this be my problem? I noted the 3k rev counter warning when I reconnected everything after checking the valves last weekend.

TPS Focced, replace it.

Yamaha Part number is 4XY-85885-00

Suzuki Part number 13580-21F00 fits, but you just need to reverse the blue and yellow wires.

About half the price of a new Yamaha one.  :thumbup

Modification in Downloads  section and takes about 5 minutes to do Smile http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php?action=down...ew;down=65
