Strange click from rear end when pulling away

When pulling away I occasionally have a click noise coming from the rear end


I appreciate it's almost impossible to diagnose over the internet but wondered if members could point me in the right direction


My last bike was shaft drive so it may be that it's just chain noise or cush drive but it definitely sounds to me more like a rear suspension, chain joint clicking

Checked the wheel bearings last night and all ok

Check your chain rub stip is intact  could be banging off swing arm as you pull away / is your shock mountings all tight / systematically check all bolts has it had chain and sprockets lately the front sprocket could be loose they do suffer that if new locking washer isn't used every change

Check the chain tension (40 - 45mm) and inspect for tight links.

It might also be a wheel bearing on its way out.

I had similar for ages on a gsx750f, turns out a couple of the rollers from the chain were missing... And the chain was made out of 3 chains...

I took the front sprocket cover off this morning and the nut and washer looked fine and more importantly tight

Spun the back wheel round slowly and watched the links go round the front sprocket with no obvious tight links

I'm going to adjust the chain as per manual in the hope that the chain is slapping against the swingarm rubbers

Best way to set the chain tension is to put bike on centrestand and press chain up at the midpoint of the lower chain run.  The chain should just touch the chain guide.  Obviously, you do this with the tightest section of chain in that position.  Rotate the chain several times to be sure you've identified this section.

Too slack is preferable to too tight.  The Fazer runs more chain slack than many bikes so don't be tempted to overtighten it based on past experience.

I have checked the chain tension and I am just able to push the lower section up onto the rubber chain guide


When running in 1st gear at idle speed on the centrestand should the chain jump around and smack the swingarm chain guides?


Everything I am seeing and my limited previous experience is telling me that the chain has a tight link somewhere but I just can't find it and don't want to shell out £100 on new C&S if I don't need to

Just an update in the hope it helps members help me to pinpoint this annoying click

I took the rear wheel off this morning to find the sprocket carrier bearing is fine, the needle bearing looks and feels good but has a little play in it which I feel is normal? The right hand bearing is not smooth when rotating it with a finger and requires replacing but certainly isn't fooked

The swingarm has a very small amount of lateral play (left to right) you can hear the bearings at the front move/lightly knock
