Changing CBF 1000 screen advice
#1
Hiya fellas,

Sounds very basic but can't find any info and don't want to bugger it. Changing my CBF screen to the one in the pic below - now all I can find is the advice of "remove the two plastic covers on the screen". Does anyone know if they just ping off or if they need to be compressed and slid up or down? After that it's a simple bolt removal.

Any advice as always appreciated.

IIRC the bolts to adjust the screen height sit under those covers. The handbook usefully tells me the screen height MUST be adjusted by a Honda dealer rather than how to do it and I cannot be arsed to go to the garage to check my bike to remind me.

All sorted - the covers are rubber and just peel off to reveal the 4 screws. 15 minute job so let's see if this screen helps the high speed buffetting.

BB, the manual is a bit like that, including seeing your main dealer to adjust the seat height  :lol - another 30 min job.

many thanks as I've got a touring screen for mine that I want to change and was wondering how long it was going to take!
might do mine tonight, if the weather is good enough! Smile

Edit: well blow me down a 15 minute job on my bike that actually took me less that 10!! not mechanically minded and chuffed to bits now I got the touring screen on her!! looking forward to Kick-Start rally and less wind bufferting.... hopefully!

The two most common complaints with the Honda CBF MK1 is the wind buffeting , no matter what screen you fit never quite solves the problem , I know I tried a couple. The other is the Stator failures but at least Honda did the decent thing in the end and gave a 7 year warranty. The CBF 1000 is a nice touring / commuting bike but is a bit staid in looks and performance. IMHO.
The Mk 2 was over priced, all be it a decent bit of kit but tried one and nearly fell asleep.

You're right on both counts Lew - both issues are well documented which I found after buying the bike.
I bought it as a commuter for London and back (100mile/day) and it does that very well with good handling, performance, braking etc.....and yup it looks bland. Could've got a late FZ1 with ABS but lot more money and don't really need more than 100bhp. The MRA touring has improved the buffeting on my bike by about 30% so will stick with that - not as good as my Fazer or Tiger with standard screens but heh, can't get ABS on them which after a shunt in London I set my heart on getting.
The stator....... I'm looking to get a re wound one with 30-40% increase in capacity along with a Mosfet regulator/rectifier (£300 ish) so will sort that before it fails.
All in for the money I've got a good responsive, comfortable, reliable commuter which can tour- job done. Will save for the MV Augusta Brutale 800 I dream of orrrr tweak the Fazer for the fun side  :thumbup

Frosties, try this forum www.cbf1000.com good bunch of lads and they will give you loads of advice.
I had a the MK 1 CBF1000 GT ABS with full luggage new to me in 2008. I toured down through France and Spain several times and it was a lovely comfortable bike apart from the Buffeting. I did 20,000 miles + in two years and she never missed a beat. Rode it all year round , thought the paint was a bit soft. One thing I did like was the Linked braking setup.
I lost faith in the bike when folk started reporting the stator failures and as I was into touring the thought of getting stranded down in France or Spain made me off load it. Honda had just introduced the Mk2 at a vastly inflated price and to be honest it just looked so bloody boring. I was at the NEC show in 2010 and Kawasaki had just introduced the Z1000SX at the same price as the CBF Mk 2 , no contest I bought the SX tourer and ran that for nearly 3 years great bike but not as comfy as the Mk1 CBF.
As you say you can pick a good one up for little money and is an ideal commuter.
