Drilling exup bolt

Any tips for drilling out and re-tapping a snapped exup bolt? I'm fairly competent with the spanners but have never tackled anything like this.

Remove the headers and take them to a local engineering shop and let them drill it out via an over-head drill.

Why? because the hole said bolt screw into is hardened and to successfully drill out the snapped bolt you have to drill precisely in the middle of said bolt. If your off-center even a little, as you go up in drill bit sizes you will eventually get the point where the edge of the drill bit will meet the threaded edge of the 6mm hole in the headers. A) you will possibly damage said thread and B) there will still be too much of the old stud left to realistically remove it and C) if you fuck it up you wont be able to put a timesert or helecoil in due to the hardened metal etc.

Do it right, do it once and when your done replace those 3x m6*10mm bolts with titanium replacements -

I had a snapped exup bolt on one of my fazers and i used a set of strong mole grips on the bit of the bolt sticking out (if you have any of the bolt sticking out!)and it freed off and i eventually got it out.. Worth a try before sending off to be drilled out. B1k3rdude is bang on tho about not foccing it up by drilling yourself.

For that to work the OP would have to be dead center, not snap the drill bit/s off in the stud....

Yep let the pro's sort it out, mine was done recently by a mate who runs a workshop.

I may have posted about this previously but I had three snap off, took the headers to Armstrongs ( ARD )at Newcastle, £20 per bolt, superb job....theres sure to be somewhere similar near to you, don't try it yourself.
