For Fazer 2002...
As per:
- Haynes 98-01 4,000 miles (6,000km) or 6 months.
- Owner's Manual printed in 2001 (supplied with my bike) 10,000 km (6,000 miles)
- Owner's Manual PDF from 2002 10,000 km (6,000 miles)
Usually it's not a problem as I change around 3-4k miles but I plan longer trip which will take me closer to 5k miles. Probably not a biggy for the bike (I hope it's not a biggy) but I wonder what's right? Someone mentioned Yam changed oil intervals for later bikes so the question is: what is the 'as per book' interval for 2002?
It's now 6000 miles, but many people including myself still tend to change it around the 4000 mark, but that's just each to their own.
Just go 5000 and split the difference.
More people are born because of alcohol than will ever die from it.
Wouldn't even give a 2nd thought to a 5k trip without an oil change. Worry about something else fella :lol
Those are my principles...if you don't like them I have others.
If your doing short stop start trips then 4000 mile changes is not a bad idea but going for a proper ride out where the oil gets to do it's thing a good quality oil will have no probs at all with 6000 mile changes.

Worry about what fella?

Every 2 years for me = 2000 miles
I have pushed it this year and will be changing soon and it will be more like 2.5k miles 2.5 years :eek I feel dirty and wrong
I don't do rain or threat there of. dry rider only with no shame.
Yamaha changed the interval for the Foxeyes to 6000 miles, not sure why and no one could tell me as there was no change to engine internals, but I have always changed mine at 4000 and change the oil filter every 8000miles.
The increased oil change intervals were probably down to improvements in oil technology through the years.
4,000 or 6,000 makes little difference really with modern oils. I tend to change mine every two years and do the filter at the same time. I don't do many miles though just old school so new filter with new oil.
