Yamaha fazer 600 wont start
#1
My bike started this problem, and then I bought a new battery, thinking that this is the problem. After this the bike still wouldn't start, and we replaced the starter relay. still not starting. replaced stator coil. still not starting. replaced voltage rectifier. It still wont start. when pushed, it starts almost immediately. all the display on my clocks are wrong. example. fuel shows empty, but tank is full. sometimes voltage runs normal 12.17 idling and 13.28 when opening a bit. but then engine faulty light comes on and volts drop down to 8.5 or 9. hope someone will be able to help me. I am a woman rider, and really need my bike to work now.  :'(

A couple of suggestions:

1) Get a garage to put a Voltage Drop Tester on the battery. I had similar problems with the engine turning over but not firing, even though the volts seemed ok. It turned out one of the cells on the battery had died due to a faulty regulator/ rectifier so it wasn't pushing out enough amps. If so, it's new battery time.

2) If that doesn't work, det a multi-meter and work your way around the components checking the voltage and looking for unexpected drops. Start with the probes on the +ve and -ve terminals of the battery, then (leaving one on the +ve terminal) trace the wiring connections to see if there's a dodgy earth somewhere.

A few questions with regards this
Which model is the Fazer? Fz600 or fz600S2
What year is it?
Does the engine turn over in neutral when you press the starter button.
If not will it turn over with the clutch lever pulled in?
Did the issues with the clocks start suddenly or get progressively worse over a period of time?

Hi. Thank you very much for replies.
Yamaha fz600 fazer 2008 model
The bike won't start at all. If in neutral or pulling clutch. When I press the starting push button, just makes a funny noise. Clocks come on but bike does not start.
The battery is new but could have damaged due to problems and also replacing parts.

Clocks started doing this just one day. Not gradually

The funny noise, is it like chattering? if so charge or change the battery. As Grahamn said a dodgy Regulator rectifier could have fried the new battery.

A low battery charge could also account for the clocks going funny

ok I will try this tonight when I get home. put a new battery in and have a look. thank you guys. appreciated your assistance.
yes it is a chattering sound.

IF the chattering (IMO more like a buzzing sound) sounds as if it is coming from under the front of the tank then, yes, it's almost certainly the battery as that's the Starter Relay not getting enough power to latch.

New batteries can often turn out to be duff (I've had this happen) which is a PITA Sad

NB if you're tempted to jump start it from a car, make sure you do it with the car's engine OFF otherwise you risk frying the bike's electrics as a car's alternator puts out more power than a bike needs!

Any joy with this??
Just think how stupid the "average" person is.  Isn't it a worry that statistically approximately 50% of the population are thicker!
