Where to buy Windows 7 Software
#21
Been having a play again this morning, removed or moved about a few things, but i'm warming to Windows 10 now.
Rather than totally changing everything they've just added a few things instead, without treading on any toes.
Once you customize things to suit you it's there's no inconvenience at all and has not been intrusive, which is a nice result.
It's not a faster system at all that i can see, but it certainly gets a thumbs up from me for now. :thumbup

With Windows 8 there is a feature that is not installed by default called Hyper-V. This is a virtual machine manager. Run this and you can install as many "PC's within your PC" as you have disk space for.
VMware do a product called VMPlayer which is free and works on earlier Windows versions to do the same thing.

With either of these, you can have the OS you don't particularly like but need just running on another virtual PC and keep the one you want for other things. No new laptop needed (just disk space and RAM)

I do a lot of work with photos and my main reason for not upgrading to 7 was because of a problem with sorting images.
If I have 50 photos and want to rearrange the order by drag and dropping - win 7 wont let me. Say I want to move photo 5 to position one in win 7 I have to first rename photo 5 to photo 1 --- but wait I cant because there is already a photo 1, so I have to first rename photo 1 to photo 1a.
In xp i just drag and drop move around to the order I want - select all - rename the 1st number to 1 and the whole lot will be renamed sequentially
I don't do rain or threat there of. dry rider only with no shame.

Errrrr, yeah  :lol  Does this mean i can run Win 7 on a Win 8 machine then ? Totally over my head  :rollin

Val - does this link you posted http://lee-soft.com/vistart/  mean that my Win 8 will look like Win 7...as in looking like XP but a bit prettier.

Darrsi seems happy with Win 10 - so is it just the appearance change that Win 10 offers?

Yes, you can run Win7 on a Win8 machine. You will still need to get a copy of the Win7 software and a key for it to work though.

Windows 10 is a lot more like Win7 than Win8.

Be careful. Whilst it will work, it wont be a legal licence. OEM licences are meant to be sold only by Original Equipment Manufacturers. ie The laptop/PC manufacturers with a new PC.

You are right. The one on sale is not OEM. It is full retail boxed version that anybody can buy and install.

This is OEM one. Strictly speaking only vendor can install that as stated on Dell PC. Means not exactly legal. Not that I've ever heard for any single case of Microsoft complaining.

After you install it you need to activate the license. Only god knows that activation will work or not.

The link you have is no different than this one: http://softwaregeeks.co.uk/product/windo...oCY9Hw_wcB

which is cheaper £20. You may give it a go. No Guarantee from me though. Probably will work.

Having said that I know people that get activation keys from free sites and install winodws for free. Bear in mind Microsoft actually was encouraging actively free winodws distribution, this is exactly why windows is so much popular and used compared to say Apple OS  Smile

Again the only 100% legal way is to buy full Retail windows. Otherwise instead of buying half legal one for £20 - £30 you may as well go full monty and get one free.

In the past upgrade versions were cheaper. Now Micorosft has messed with prices so much I have no idea.

You can go there and run Upgrade Assistant to see what are your options and price from microsoft:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windo...online-faq

Click the second button for XP. That is actually good idea to check is your hardware compatible with the new software too.
