What to look for when buying a fz1?
#1
Hey Guys,

I just sold my Honda Blackbird and on the lookout for a newer model fazer 1000.
Have lins up a 2007 lava red on to go see but wondering if there is anything specific on these bikes i should be looking for when inspecting it?

Cheers.

Cheers for the reply man.
Although i deffo wouldnt be going for a Gen 1, aesthetically i just couldnt own one where as the Gen 2 is beautiful to look at.

I'm in Ireland so will be keeping an eye out for one. They dont come up too often though.

As for any bike look at everything, there are really no specific items that are unique to the FZ1 that need particular attention.
I would advise a decent length road test , some suffer more from  thriottle lag than others, ( which makes my first sentence look like I am talking nonsense), some people find it hard to live with whilst others do not notice it, the first ones from 2006 seem to be most affected.
Popular mods are aftermarket end can and air filter, power commander and a fuel cut eliminator (or fce for short). The fce stops the afore mentioned throttle lag.
The exup valve on the FZ1 ( known as the gen2) does not affect the power low down as it did on the first Fazer 1000( known as the gen1 ) and if it has an aftermarket end can on the exup will have been removed.

Look for excessive rust under the fuel filler cap.

Selling mine to another membe next Sunday....£2500......probably the lowest priced Gen2 there is.......needs a little TLC.........if for whatever reason the deal doesnt go ahead then i am in south west wales and just a quick ferry trip across the irish sea.

Cheers man. Will keep it in mind.
Just have one lined up to see so far. Its lava red but no lower fairings of belly pan but does have full luggage, 28,000km an its roughtly £3100.

Will see how it looks in the flesh. In no rush so will be holding on until i find one i couldnt pass on.
Im mad for doing loads of small aesthetic improvements to my bikes so finding one with a load of bits done already would be nice.

Every Fazer I've ever owned has had that, and I've owned quite a few.
I could change my opinion, but then we'd both be wrong.

Know your pain. Couldn't find one here in the North so I had to go to Scotland for a 08 model( black) 11000 miles for £3600. Worth the trip. Find one on the mainland guy and go for it!

Yeah man ive been keeping an eye on MCN an Auto trader. The issue really is the Euro -> sterling conversion that screws me. Really pushes the price up.
Actually looking at maybe going for a bmw k1200s instead
