#1
Just bought a 2006 TT Rider V1 and I have everything bar the quick release cradle, I've tried ebay, amazon, google and nada -

I'm after 2 of these, but one will do to begin with.

the chances of finding a decent working one are less than seeing Elvis win the derby on shergar
HTH
and if you do manage to find one, get a lanyard on the TT unit and wrap it around the stem so when the clip fails it doesn't bounce off down the road :rollin

Iirc there is a power input under the flap.
Get a waterproof doobrey off ebay for £10 and feed the wire up in through the bottom
I use an ordinary TT this way.
FYI only pins 1+4 do anything iirc. I've got a dead one lying around somewhere. When I get home  on Friday I'll check. I've also got a new unused battery for a rider 1 which you may have for a donation to air ambulance.

Ta mister, I have been reading up on those original mount/clamps so have a few pointers on how to fix the "rusting pin" issue.

On a related note I have spent a week looking for some way to be able to charge the TT on the bike and have it quick release. The mounts I've seen that have a ball and socket joint are based on the car cradle which utterly pointless for use on a bike.

And on WTF topic, Turatech do a clamp/mount, but at £130+ and no electrical connection that aint happening...

Wont work on the V1 TT rider due to the shape, the V1 has an inbuilt sunlight hood.

So Im hoping you find your dead/old cradle (and battery) so I can see what I can come up with. Im thinking of perma-mounting (mechanically and electrically) the cradle to the TT and then bolting one of those universal quick release ball-and-socket bolt-to-the-handlebars on both bikes etc.

My bad, didn't phrase it well. I have an old v1 rider so can check the wiring of the back of that. Youll find those waterproof covers are very deep and will accommodate a v1.
flogged the bracket for about £50 on eBay and was getting begging emails after it ended.
i wasnt impressed with the software on the rider as it used the same system garmin use rather than TT based stuff.
ive got a new digitizer screen as well for when yours goes tits up Wink

Do you have a link as all the ones I have seen don't have 'any' depth to them, as in they are completely flat. In the meantime I have ordered one of these -

Holder and quick release strap

I'm gonna use doubled sided foam tape to firmly secure the TT into the holder and will wire-in a quick release waterproof external power connector and matching-fused loom for both bikes. Pictures to follow.

On a different note, this would be a perfect task for a 3D printer. If and when I get a hold of the clamp shown in the OP I will send it off to get it 3D copied etc.

The problem with the V1 holder was (is) that the unit jiggles up and down and wears down the pins on the back and you lose charging capability. You can charge the unit from the mains before you go out, but then you only get 5-6 hours before it dies. The whole point of these is to continuously charge from the bike battery. There was a big fuss at the time, with riders returning units under guarantee, but TomTom denied it was a design fault.
I've got the V2 and Tomtom redesigned the cradle completely. It's better, but not fault free. Mine sometimes loses contact where the socket plugs in underneath, and I have to wiggle it around to restore contact.
Underneath is a mini usb socket used fo mains charging, but you can't adapt to use that to charge on the run, because it's under a flap that also keeps the memory card in place with the operating system and the maps on it .....
Why did they make it so difficult !

Its my own fault, I should have read up about the bloody thing before I bought it. If I can help it this will be my first and last TomTom device, thier give-a-shit attitude towards the product before and after it was lunched and their rip-off prices for new products just demonstrates to me they don't deserve any of my money.

If I was able to use my Galaxy S4 through a case with gloves I would be using that instead, yes it dosent get a gps lock nearly as quick but way more usefull.

The riders series were not TT finest hour. And although it pains me to say it the Garmin kit was superior. I now use a regular satnav in the waterproof case.

Well today I jury-rigged a mount using the ram mount car cradle and some insulating tape. While it performed flawlessly, dynamically plotting a new route on the way. The screen was pretty much un-viewable when the sun was out or it was bright out. When the mount I bought turns up i will see if the screen can be oriented so it can be seen better.

What sat nav do you use and does it work with gloves? and how does it handle the sun?

It's a stop and gloves off to program and reflection off the cover is a pain at times.

  • non starter for me then, no point having one if its no better than my S4 (stop and gloves off)
  • this is also a non starter, its bad enough as it is without adding a a bit of shiny pvc into the mix.
Another issue for me atleast is the TTR dosent allow easy resetting of the trip stats, only a factory reset will do it.

So the Ultimate-addons kit arrived today, but needed some modding. Which was very rough as I didn't have a small file to hand, but as its at the back I'm not to bothered -

I also spotted what looks like a waterproof hood for the bottom, but the only way to make it waterproof is to remove the hatch/door and glue it in place with silicon sealant. UA do a lead that looks like ti slots into said hood - will investigate.
