After putting my rear wheel back on after a tyre repair I put the bike on its centre-stand to check all was moving freely. However when I put the bike into gear there was significant vibrating from the chain. My (much more bike savvy) mate had a look at it for me & couldn't figure out what the problem was. Everything seems buttoned up tight, the rear wheel is moving freely with no obstruction, front sprocket is also tight. I took the bike a very short run and it felt absolutely fine & normal. So am I reading into this too much or is there something wrong somewhere..? spoke to my local bike shop about it & they couldn't give me a definite answer…any help/advice much appreciated
when the bike is on the centre stand there is no tension on the chain so it will jump around all over the place.
As long as there are no tight spots and the tension is correct (35mm when on main stand) then you should be fine.
Infiniteloop, I notice you have an original 9mm front sprocket nut on there, search on here, you will find loads about it, do not worry about it, but I would bear it in mind when you next change chain and sprockets to get the updated 12mm one
Ebme..yeh i'm aware of the sprocket nut issue. I'd checked it previously before opening the cover again to check out this chain malarky i was having. My thoughts are the same..I'll change the sprocket to the upgraded one when the chain needs changing. For the time being though the front sprocket nut seems to be in good condition and on tightly & securely..cheers
