Hot exhaust

hello out there....


I have a 2005 fzs 1000, after about a minute after start up the exhaust header/downpipe gets really hot..then the fan kicks in...is this normal or should i be worried..

The fan kicks in automatically and will go off when you put the bike in gear.  Best guess is Yamaha designed that way to ensure that the fan gets spun up regularly even though the motor might not reach temps high enough to need it all that often.

Headers will get hot - and fast.  The two aren't connected, I'm sure.

I contacted Yamaha about this, they said that the fan spins up to prevent it being distorted from the heat being given off from the downpipes.

My bro in law works for a Yamaha dealer I asked him the same question when I got my gen1 thought id broken it already  :lol . Apparently hes been asked that loads of times.
Think its to prove the fan works because there's no temp gauge if its faulty its going to be a bit warm by the time the light comes on.
