I've just serviced my forks, as the seals were leaking bad and I had no record of when or if they've ever been serviced previously. Popped down to Oval Motorcycle Centre where Matt walked me through the job, so made sure I did the whole thing properly.
Oddly, one fork had newish looking red oil in it, the other manky brown oil in it. Either way, I kept things simple to begin with, replaced it with stock 10W oil and 132mm air gap (mainly as I'm a skinny fart at only 10.5-11 stone). Left pre-load bolts on 4 notches as they were previously.
Obviously the bike rides better than before with its leaky seals, however I'm feeling a lot of bounce at the front. Not so much excessive dive on braking (through there is some dive when braking hard), but over minor bumps it does feel as though it bouncing repeatedly and oscillating somewhat.
What would you recommend as first thing to tweak and try and resolve this?
I know many suggest heavier oil, 15W etc to firm things up. Is this going to be the way to go, or how would you adjust front pre-load first? Or is this behaviour indicative of knackered springs? FWIW the bushes were in good nick, teflon coating still intact.
