Severn Bore
#1
Any going to see the Severn Bore this weekend, supposed to be one of the best with a few years with the full tide height at 10.4 metres

I do go and see it from time to time, the last one I saw was a 4 star.  The Sever Bore is an astonishing sight, i like the view at Newnham, when the water level rises, maybe 25 feet in less than 2 minutes.  Up at the Severn Bore Inn is also good, the wash along the bank can be quite intimidating. Everyone should see one Britain's tidal bores at some stage, but the Severn's is so good due to the tidal range and the natural funnelling upstream of Awre ness.

I've also seen the bore on the Parrett too, which is smaller, but arrives earlier on the evening tide, it can be seen by the bank close to Dunball-Pawlett.

All of the best bores are usually early (before 0930, but often at 0730ish) and late (with 11-12 hours between high tides).

If you were coming a long way, you'd need digs etc.  I live in Bristol, and used to live by the Severn, so it isn't too taxing for me to go and view it.

I hope to get to Newnham on Saturday morning and Over bridge Sunday morning.
It will be my first time watching the Severn Bore.

Why not do Newnham, Severn Bore Inn and Over Bridge in one go? With a bike you have no hassles with parking, which is largely the issue at each viewing point.

Don't forget the clock change this weekend. I used to live in Gloucester and have canoed on it several times. Quite a few get it wrong at clock change weekends.
The wave should be big as there hasn't been much rain recently so the river level is quite low. It can be dangerous if there is a lot of rainfall going down the river as it floods in places. I've seen the car park at the pub (White Hart Inn at Newnham iirc) flood.

Unfortunately I have the car with me this time. There are access problems apparently around the Severn Bore Inn due to construction.
Might still try it with the car, but with this being one of the best bores in recent times and restricted access to some viewing spots it might attract a large crowd.

Phil, The clock change is the weekend after (last Weekend in March)
