Spinning Bolts....oh no
#1
Hello!

So i have been getting to grips with my Fazer, 2001 FZS 600, i have managed to now get the fuel tank off and wanted to change the air filter, so this involves removing the fuel tank mounting bracket....well this is where the problem lies...

PROBLEM WAS ME - NO NEED TO TAKE OFF BRACKET - READ THE THREAD

One of the bots backed out fine, the other just spins freely in both directions... :eek

I can see the brackets are cheap and plentiful on known sites, so that is good....if i have to get a new one..

But the question is any tips on how i get this bolt out - if its a simple case of like any other then i shall spend the day on the internet  Smile

It sounds like the thread is stripped or the square nut that should be welded to the plate has come loose. Have a look under the plate at the nut and see if it turns when you turn the bolt. If it does, get a spanner or some pliers on the nut while you undo the bolt. The nuts are only welded on to ease assembly so you could just re-use it or replace it with a normal hex nut, preferably of the locking insert type.
If the nut is still welded on the plate then the thread on the nut or bolt must be stripped. You could try pulling up on the bolt while you undo it. If that doesn't work a last resort is to drill the head off.
Good luck with it.

there should only be 2 bolts mate, on up front by the forks to release the tank so it can pivot and 1 long bolt about 3 inch long that goes all the way through the mounting bracket...................

Scrap that...................... as he said! ^^^  :lol

RMT1983 - got the tank off ok  Smile

But i need to get the bracket off the frame so i can get to the air filter, there is a rubber cover that the tank bracket fixes in place...and its one of those bolts that is just spinning

If all else fails its angle grinder time .... :b

You don't need to remove any brackets at all to remove the air filter???
Peel away the rubber cover, unscrew the air box lid and just take it out!
