Front Master Clinder

I don't love the feel from the front brake. It comes on progressively and feels a bit soft to me. The bike stops fine, but I like a firm and assured bite with a more solid feel from the pads first contact through to full stop.


My Honda has this. The front brake can stoppie on a dime. I am used to that feeling and prefer it. Its solid and assured.


I have braided hoses on all my bikes, and all the hoses are Hel, so there is definitely no issue there.


I want to know if there is another master cylinder that fits on to the Fazer (even if I have to fit a new lever or whatever) that will give me the feel I want.


Have any of you guys done this before?

Get a kit and rebuild the master cylinder the fazer has awesome brakes when all is sorted, sintered pads help too

I have EBC sintered pads and HEL braided hoses. I have serviced the calipers, changed the pots and seals and I change the fluid every year or so.


What kit are you talking about?

If the pots in the calipers aren't moving as good as they should then that will take the bite out of braking.

I've got a Triumph Speed Triple Brembo master cylinder on mine, hel lines and SBS race sintered pads...the breaking is awesome....got it from Dynotech Ecosse

The pots are moving beautifully, I rebuilt the calipers a couple of years back with new pots, seals and plenty of red rubber greese. I also change the fluid and give a full inspection way more than required. The brakes have always felt "progressive". I don't like progressive, I like solid, kick in the arse, switch like brakes. If I am applying my front brake, I am applying it hard. If it does not need applied hard, it does not need applied at all. The rear brake is for scrubbing off speed.


BBB, do you know if the Trip master cylinder works on my model? I might run it by the guys at Dynotech. They must be fed up with me asking questions and not spending money. All the do for me is fit tyres (and give good advice).

Looking at the part numbers, a 2000 model R6 master cylinder takes the same lever as the Fazer so should be pretty do-able. IIRC a similar year R1 would also fit, as long as the master cylinder doesn't foul the fairing.
I've been looking at doing something similar on a project bike as my CBR6 had stoppie-inducing brakes. Might be something to do with the weight distribution though.
I'm going to look into servicing the existing master cylinder first though.

I'm not sure, its worth a call though and again they will point you in the right direction

Thanks for the feedback guys. I am now considering taking the bike off the road for the winter and doing a bit of a refurbishment. I did this a few years ago, but now it seems the bearings are on their way out (wheels just done and steering head to be done). So I am thinking engine out, powdercoat frame and replace all the remaining bearings and re-re-paint the engine. So I might have the bike in bits anyway, so I could experiment with that R6/R1 master cylinder.

All this is pending on me finishing repairs to my subsiding garage. For that I need a wee break in the weather. Ha, as if!
