Update: I've made one, get it over here.
I've had no luck with my google-fu, and the last product i had from ebay wasn't cut to the correct size, and the seller was an arse.
So: I'm trying to find the actual measurements, unless of course; I can remove the gold surround to apply vinyl then cut to fit?
Yep me too, I fancy a brushed stainless steel one to (not vinyl) pop over the gold one would look much better on my black and silver bike
I don't do rain or threat there of. dry rider only with no shame.
Well, whichever way I get this done; i'll be sure to post up a template.

What?
what is it that you are trying to do - I dont understand. do you mean remove the plastic fascia that sits around all the dials - it pulls off??
Three lefts make a right
See the brass/gold surround which sits around the rev and fuel guage?
My aim is to cover that with vinyl as I think it could look better.
Oh I see what you mean.
I did this but not with my Fazer, another bike. I dont have pics but can tell you what I did..
I used a piece of sticky back carbon fibre square larger than the square (shape) of the area being covered. So in this case enough to cove the gold fascia.
Make sure its a square shape. Place over and make a mark with liquid paper or dab of white paint, where you can feel the clocks. Take away the card then make a hole where the paint dabs are. Make a cut starting from the hole , outward, about 2 cm, into an "X" shape. Place the card back over the clocks and push the card down and the "X" over the clock. May need to increase the "X" size - trial and error, but do it in SMALL STEPS, like 1/2 cm at a time. push card down and around the base of a dial and using a craft knife cut around the base of the dial to make a neat circular cut.Take off the card and remove the backing paper then starting at the top put the card over and fit into place.

aaaand back on topic...
I like this idea, thanks!
I'll give it a go as soon as i'm able.
I'll try it with paper, so that:
1. I don't waste vinyl
2. I can make a template
how wrong was the ebay one and could you use that as a starting point. Where was it wrong

It wasn't wide enough.
The fuel guage part was perfect, but the further left you went, the worse it got.
I'm confident that i can make a near-exact template, though.
practice with thin card - like the big side of a cereal box - thats what I did. Although the card may not be easy to cut around the base of the dials , bear this in mind. When done correctly, using quality plastic backing card, you wont be able to tell the difference until you touch the plastic cover versus a laser cut alloy template - but then again the alloy is like x10 more expensive
