SOLD: FZS600 engine for repair or spares
#1
Edit 17/8: I've given up on selling this on eBay due to a buyer who never paid and noone bidding when I relisted it, so anyone who'll take it away can have it for nothing but you'll need to come and pick it up from Milton near Cambridge.

I swapped this engine out years ago (with a lot of help from Gordo) when the output shaft bearings went and, because it's an engine-split job, it was cheaper to replace it than get it fixed. Since then it's been sitting in my garage with a plastic garbage bag over it so it should still be in good nick. I kept it well sprayed with Scottoiler FS365 when it was in the bike and the garage is bone dry.

It had exactly 62,597 miles on it when it was taken out and, to be honest, it ran better and looked better than the new engine did.

Do you have any information about when the Valve clearances were checked or when the cam chain was done?

Also, do you have a ball-park figure in mind for how much you want for it?

I didn't have the valve clearances checked and it never needed a new cam chain. I can't speak for the first owner.

I'm hoping for £100 but I'll consider any offer. I've also listed it on eBay so might withdraw it from here without notice.

I think the catch is that its not too difficult to get hold of these engines at the moment so people don't want to invest on working on this one if they can get one that doesn't need it...

I was curious as I have a spare engine but I'm not sure if its worth the effort of restoring (it went through a rough patch... of fire...). Unfortunately, my finances aren't great as I'm shelling out a lot of money to move house and I'm not 100% on the work required to sort the output shaft bearings

But the opposite of that is if you work on it yourself you know the work has been done and done right.

Oh I completely agree and that is my frame of mind; but I know others who are terrified of doing anything like that themselves

Here you go thunderpantz: http://r.ebay.com/Rl85FQ

Fair enough, Dead Eye, but I can't see any as cheap as this one and as b1k3rdude says, you'll know it's been fixed well. Plus you'll have the chance to check out all the other internals while you're at it.

No bids so automatically relisted. Looks like I might be giving it to my local bike mechanic.

It has a reserve on it  :nana

Although if it gets bids but fails to meet the reserve and a Foccer has the top bid I'd be open to taking what they bid if it's reasonable.

I can't be arsed stripping it and, based on the response from my local bike mechanic, noone would want the parts anyway.

I give up, I've relisted it with no reserve. I just want rid of it now.

I'd be really interested to see a link to the £50 working FZS600 engine, though, or are you perhaps just making that up?

It's amazing what saying "NO RESERVE" will do. Four days to go and already 5 bids taking it to £41 :thumbup

Foccin ell surely someone is near you that could just throw it in their car boot.....even the casings and pipes etc are worth money on their own.

Plus are those engine to carb rubbers in good condition as they could go for £40 on their own in good used condition....folk always seem to need them
Easiest way to go fast........don't buy a blue bike
