Hi Everyone,
I decided to have a look at my spark plugs as I don't think they've ever been changed, they are NGK CR8E and certainly look old, some have a small amount of rust on the bolt side of the spark plug. Is it worth replacing them or just leaving them until they give up? I've had no problems with them just to add.
If you think they've not been changed for 12 years :eek........HELL YEAH!!!!!! :lol
I think they might be as the haynes manual say's CR9E's should be fitted, however it may well be its just an older version of spark plug, my fazer has tons of service history previously but I can't see a spark plug change, its crazy how long they can actually last!
Mine lasted 11years, you could drive a bus through the spark gap when I changed them.
Don't know what the were they went in the bin.
Curiously the tickover was not that bad, and they performed fine.
I concur its crazy how long OEM kit actually lasts.
There have been plenty of horror stories on here of plugs shearing off when someone's tried to take them out.
I'd consider taking the bike to a dealer and asking them to change the plugs for you. Not something I'd normally recommend for such a simple job, but if they've been in there for a decade or so, they might not want to come out without a fight.
Mate of mine bought a Toyota Celica new in 2001.
He never had it serviced....ever, just kept adding oil when it needed it.
It did around 130,000 miles before it finally packed in.
In any event someone gave him a replacement set of plugs, and he changed them (at this point the car had done 120,000 miles ish).
I asked him was the car running better now it had a new set of plugs; he replied that he couldn't tell any difference.
