A couple of weeks ago I was at Loomies with the Solent Advanced Motorcyclists, trying to get people who'd just done Bikesafe with the Hampshire Police to join the IAM.

Most of the Police were on their usual bikes, however it seems there's now an R1 done up in Police colours.

Unfortunately the guy riding it may not have had as much experience as he liked because he pulled into the carpark, turns to go into a parking space at which point the bike stalls and he drops it in front of about 40 bikers...!!  :o

That can happen to anyone, dare I say, even an IAM'S instructor. Wink As for the Atom, if this is for real, I can see some horrific crashes coming up, on both sides.

It's all well and good the police showing off their latest toys; their have been Elises and even a Lambo at one point. But the big question is, has anyone actually seen any of these high spec cars on patrol? I never have...

It will have been 'donated' or loaned to the cops just as a PR stunt during the summer. There's no way they will have bought that in this day and age.
Stop polishing it and ride the bloody thing!!

The Elise's and Lambo were given to the police by the manufacturers for advertising stunts. They were never actually used as patrol cars. Not sure about the atom though but guess its the same.
Another ex-Fazer rider that is a foccer again

This will just be used for events to promote the good name of the Police. Probably

I dunno about somerset, but I know in the past that Strathclyde Police used to use cars which had been seized under the proceeds of crime act as high speed patrol cars (including a Focus RS, and an Audi Q7).

It has got the number plate on it which is owned by Ariel. Could be a clue it's not genuine.

Hope it isn't as I hate these cars on the road, there was a fatal accident just around the corner from my home last year, driver showing off, result the young lad who was his passenger died when he crashed after losing control >:

Quote:Simon Saunders, Director of Ariel said: "Our business is about going fast, very fast, but there is a time and a place.

"The Atom is designed to be driven to a race track, where you can drive to your limits in safety and in a professional environment designed for the purpose.

"The road really isn't the place to explore your or your vehicle's limits."

The Ariel Atom police car will be unveiled to the public on June 8 in Somerset alongside a host of other police vehicle.

However the car, which weighs just 612kg will not be used in operational police duties.
