"Free excess protection with this policy".
Having looked into this policy earlier this year, basically the insurance company (which I think is equity red star) put a £500 excess on. Then MCE (the broker) offer excess protection, which gets your actual excess down to £100.

very good point Ralphie and this is why I WANT my policy so that I can actually read whats written in black and white as lets face it insurance really is legalised robbery because they are the first to look for any discrepancy or loop hole in order to not have to settle or pay for a claim, and if the fuckers haven't sent my policy but do say "oh its OK, your on the database" well I'm sorry but that's just not bloody good enough! I paid for a policy and I want to see whats on it.

Insurance companies record all phone calls and keep it for years- I've used that to my advantage in the past, so, not having the documents still isn't an issue!

Not necessarily much lower.

A couple of times when renewing my insurance I've found I've got a £200 "voluntary" excess included (I sure as foc didn't volunteer for that!)

Taking it off increased the premium by about a fiver, so if I ever need to claim, that's £195 I've just saved :thumbup

MCE are on my never again list after misinforming about excess for different claims and sending a policy with incorrect details and then passing me from one department to another on the phone and ending up hanging up on me. Each time on hold (at that time) I was greeted with the message " Your smiles better with MCE"  :foc

Really hopelessly poor!! Don't do it; it's worth paying more...
