Going naked?
#1
Just wondering if anyone has tips coverting a fazer to naked/streetfighter type bike.
Did this to my 53 reg 600 hornet but adapting clocks etc was a bit tricky. Would like to do on a budget if poss.

Anyone used the nose cone/headlight units available in great variety on ebay?

Thanks!

You obviously want one of these

Being sold by a reputable good honest person, and I can tell you at the moment £5.01 will be the highest bid!

I've just finished doing this to my bike. It was too good a deal to turn down, I bought the bike, 99 boxeye,  for £600, sold the headlight for £75, fairing for £180, indicators for £30, double bubble screen for £30 and handlebars for £20. I hate bikes with fairings, always disliked the way everything always points straight ahead even when your turning ! Anyway I then bought a set of renthal bars £30, a new 7" lc type headlight £40, renthal grips £10, mini indicators £15, xenon headlight bulb £5, bar clamps £20. New clamps are needed the way I did it because I needed the bolts to be extra long to attach the new bracket that the clocks bolt to.
The bracket/plate was made from 3mm ally plate, I drew around the clocks to give me the shape, cut it out with a hacksaw, eventually, then marked where the ignition barrel was and where the clamp bolts were and then cut and drilled to make it fit. It's hard to explain and was a lot of trial and error. The plate was then bent so that the clocks faced the rider. There is a 10mm gap between the plate and the back of the clocks and a solution was found in .."................gutter gaskets !, the rubber strips that seal gutter brackets were a perfect fit, they look like they were designed for the job and are held in place with a few blobs of superglue.
The result is excellent if I do say so myself and I now have a bike that points where it's going.
I will post pictures if I can work out how.

This sounds just what Im after, pics would be great. Is there no gallery on the site?
I did similar with my hornet, tbh making the clocks fit in was the hardest bit. Selling parts on would help but Im more inclined to keep jic I resold, then the buyer would have both options. Im 100% with you on the fairing pointing straight ahead when you turn!

Take the fairing off
You can cut the bracket down that the clocks sit on
Make sure what ever headlamp unit you get it is a proper bulb

I bought one and it had a small halogen bulb like what is used in kitchens
Needless to say it was rubbish and it got binned before I tried to put it on the bike

Seen that fairing on a few bikes and tbh never looked right on any.. Hints at a shrunken sport bike top fairing thats out of proportion with everything.. Apologies in advance to anyone that has gone that route  Smile
Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it..

Looks kinda cool, actually! But personally, I'd have Punkstig's flyscreen fairing, I reckon that would look awesome.  Smile

Not sure about the lack of bracing on that can though....

Did the clock fit straight on or did you need to fit a different sender?

I don't know the ins and outs of anything 'extra' needed because this is from the factory like this (minus the clip ons). But as far as I know the clocks are the same as the XJR400 and the top yoke probably is too.

I'll have a look at grabbing some more detailed shots tomorrow.

be careful of all those cheap bikini fairings none will pass mot as no beam pattern, best off with an old lc350 headlight or any 7" round or mt03 fz6 depending on money available...mine has fz6

Sorry for the delay, here are some more detailed pictures. I can't really show any more without taking things apart.

The clocks are attached to the top yoke, I don't know if the FZS has the same points as mine.
