Politics affect us as motorcycle riders/owners from time to time so any topic should be open to reasonable discussion-otherwise we will end up with censorship rather than a site"moderator". At least we have a lively ACTIVE forum-long may it continue!
I don't particularly like politicians(of any persuasion) and Im even less enthusiastic about control wherever it originates.
At present there is a political element in my home city trying to introduce segregation/division in schools based on fundamentalism-this doesn't affect ME as a bike rider but I am concerned for my granddaughters future-so will make my views felt although probably not on here!
Lots of opinions by people who haven't voted in the pole....just like real politics.
Seriously though i know where you're coming from...perhaps it aint a ban of politics you're after though and more a ban on some pretty harsh comments that get seen on here sometimes coz i dont like reading that type o stuff either.....it's too late once you've read it.
Then again just not getting involved usually works.

Just like you have to do in real life. People will say things you don't like. Does that give you (or anyone) to the right to ban them from saying it (assuming it's not condoning murder, preaching terrorism etc)?
No it doesn't!
Politics is part of life, deal with it. Pretending otherwise is frankly pathetic, and trying to create an environment without it, is to create a false environment, which is stifling. What else do you want to ban? Talk about cars? Beards? Kids walking round with their pants showing (yeah, I think it looks ridiculous, but it's their choice)?
I think you're partly right rich.....fizzy has openly admitted that he is slightly jesting...to take his request of a ban literally is a step too far....but i see it more of a an expression of annoyance at some of the stuff banded about & there are others that feel the same.
& no i don't quite think people can just get away with saying what they like either...all this free speech nonsense & alright jack im doing what i want coz that's half the problem with todays society imo...rules exist & that's also something people need to learn to deal with......a ban is not a new concept....society deems driving dangerously can get you a ban from driving.....forums have rules and can introduce bans.
Someone saying should scotland be independant doesnt bother me.......saying those scottish bastards couldnt handle it does offend me......& to me it's that simple...a bit of respect and debate in a grown up manner.
Imo i think the police chat got to fizzy????....supposed to be a club with a good mix of folk....im not in the police but i know folk who are and i respect them just as much as i respect the local bin men.....on individual merit....so blanket statements dont do any favours....oh well maybe i shoulda just joined in on that convo then....actually i should have.....& i think from now on i will.
So actually here i was agreeing pro ban......& now after discussion i think foc it i'll get stuck in more :rolleyes
Oh & ban the beards talk....good idea....never trust a man with a beard

One of the best things about this site, is that it's far more than just a bike site. Anything can, and does, get discussed, and that's what makes it such a vibrant place. Coupled with a very light degree of moderation, it has made this place what it is today. Those saying ban politics before it ruins the place, are missing the point - it's because of the wide ranging topics discussed, that the forum is still here. How many other forums are anywhere near as frequented as this, covering bikes that (mostly) stopped being sold years ago?
It's a real community - long may it continue, say I !!!
+1..
So long as folks can discuss it in a reasonably grown up manner, I dont see the need to put bans on discussing almost anything (within reason). those who dont wish to read/discuss such things can simply not read/participate in those threads, no?

+1
Except for that grown up manner.
Most things done in a hurry need to be done again - patiently.
Where is that fizzy anyway???, starts shit off & then dissapears, prob down the polling office
So scores on the doors so far.......pretty even opinion each way......some foccers like discussing political stuff........others demand more respectful chatter.
Both sides need to get a grip. :b
