Ditch it like I've done, sell the headlight (£80) sell the fairing, even damaged you'll get £70. Fit a single round headlight and mount clocks with a bracket. Much better look in my opinion, I hate fairings, always really annoyed me how they look straight ahead all the time when you're turning :eek

Yep, repair price sounds about right. I presume that includes a respray after repair?

However, I just replace a 2003 fox eye fairing on mine, paid £180 for genuine one, full painted. The older square eye fair is a spot more, £210-220 ish. Note that doesn't include stickers or front badge.  Pair of stickers come in at the bargain price of £70...

Now, TBH, that's still a pretty good deal, Yammy used to charge £450 odd for the front cowling until last month!
A knock off fibre glass fairing will cost you about £120. However a decent spray job on that will set you back a further £100 odd.

If you decide to street fighter the bike and lose the fairing, you're gonna have to fork out some cash for replacement headlights and a tidier mount for clocks etc. Probably ain't gonna work out much cheaper TBH.

So, ultimately the best/cheapest plan is to phone your local Yammy dealer and order a new fairing sprayed to match. Then swap it over yourself (dead easy, 1-2 hr job).

Hi, I'm in the process of repairing the top fairing on my sisters Mk1 Fazer 600.
Halfords do a Fibreglass kit which I used to re-enforce the inside. I then used some bumper filler on the outside. Rubbed it down with wet & dry and painted with plastic primer (total so far £30)
I have a mate who works for Chips Away (mobile paint & body repairer) and he's going to paint it at my home for £50 this weekend.
Finally 2 x Fazer & 1 X tuning fork decals / stickers from Ebay £5 +/-...

It's not difficult to do really. If you're not too handy have a look through Youtube...  Wink

Im basically giving away a fibreglass boxeye copy that needs spraying......for £30 to anyone who can pick it up from my doorstep in south west wales...right on the coast.

Someone else already has dibs on it if nobody picks up......but im not sure where you are.

Im selling it cheap to reflect the above comments as is it will be allot of dosh to get it sprayed......but for £130 all in for a nice painted repro that aint so bad.
Easiest way to go fast........don't buy a blue bike

Hi Arfa - where did you buy your painted fox-eye fairing ? I need one. As I work for a graphics company I'll see what our boys can do to replicate the stickers.

Cheers.

Was direct from Yamaha, Sondel. Down in South London. Were closest, so easy to collect.

Be interested to hear how you get on with stickers. Did find some nos ones, but weren't a matching pair, one blue background, one silver. :-(

Cheers Arfa, will try my local dealer and let you know how I go with stickers - one place I've used before is Sunrise Graphics. Not checked them for this but they did perfect side panel decals for Liz's VF 750 when I got that re-painted. They'd be worth a try for the Fazer.

I am a plastic welder as well as a mechanic and by that I mean proper plastic welding and not a cowboy with a soldering iron. I normally charge £40 for a weld and then £60 per panel to paint. I don't use glue or fibreglass because IMHO neither are a permanent repair.

This is a thou fairing that was split out from the headlight and then crack from the top corner of the light that I repaired, this picture was taken prior to paint, once painted the repair will be completely invisible and just as strong as the original fairing ever was.

The prices I quoted were correct around Feb/March this year when I bought mine. Do a search, there was some big long threads having a good natter over Yamaha's recent halving in prices.

Are people really paying £70 or more for some stickers with 'Fazer' on them? Seriously?

That's how much Yamaha charge, not necessarily how much I was willing to pay...

Besides, with no stickers, the bike is more blue, so goes more faster.  :b

Thank goodness for that! I thought the world was going mad! Can't see what purpose they serve anyway - it's not like I need reminding what bike I've got!

There are often a full set of knock off Fazer stickers on Ebay for a tenner.  Smile
