If you are using a front stand and the centerstand, be aware that you risk lifting the center stand off the ground. Watch out for the bike falling sideways while you are trying to raise or lower it, or remove the rear wheel first.

Well a scrap yard challenge occurred and with Zero money spent i built a bike lift,,and it works,now can have two wheels off the ground

Yes , slopes one way,,i have just put a concrete screed all over the garagfe floor, the flag stones had big steps in them, too much to level the floor though,,i can now wheel the rear paddock stand around,,i will put wheels on the bike lift too,


i got a tyre on order so i can take just the wheel in for fitting now,,easier on a work day.

The jacks are very cheap compared to other lifts, mine has been lay in a chichen shed for 10 years :eek

Two lugs locate on the center stand monting points and front rest is under header brace.

The cradle can easily be altered,,this was a first time attempt,,the cradle just hooks on the jack and does not need any fixings but i have incorperated a top brace,just incase it levers out,but it does not need it.

How is the bike resting on the lift?

On this cradle i have put two upright posts with locating lugs that hook around the bike main center stand mounting points,this is the bike frame and puts most weight straight onto the cradle,,there are a few options for the cradle design,this is just a first attempt.


The front of the bike stand sits under the exaust headers cross member,quite stable really, i have not as yet put a top stabilising attatchment.

I've got one of these (well it's big brother anyway, same in operation, just bigger!).

I like it. It's a bit fiddly to get the bike on, especially the first time you work with a particular bike, but with that done, it doesn't half make life easier. Better than a normal bench lift, if you're dropping the wheels off (cos they'll drop out of the way without removing mudguards etc), but still have the bike at comfortable working height when sat on a stool to service brakes, for example. Obviously takes up a  lot less room when not in use, which was a big consideration for me.

I wonder how easy it would be to combine a jack like that with an ABBA stand? Me thinks me has an idea!

I put the bike on the centre stand and use a ratchet strap attached to the bars to lift the front, i have alo lifted a bike completely off the ground this way with another strap on the rear subframe.
