I've only had the bike a couple of weeks, and it's not for me. I want another streetbike (fazer maybe)
It's a 97 tdm 850 in yellow/silver.
42k, (this is nothing for a TDM)
Mot April 2014
6 months tax
Valve clearances just done,
S/S 2 into 1 exhaust + headers
Renthal 992 bars
Iridium d/b screen
Givi rack
Spada top box
Avon Roadrunner tyres pretty much as new.
Aftermarket shock ( It's an old one but is still good. Just redone bottom bush)
Rear wheel bearings just done.
This is a superb bike for winter Commuting, but it's just not for me.
I'm after £1300 as this is what I paid before the mods.
I would like to replace it with a 500cc+ streetbike such as a fazer.:
I'm in the Blackpool area
Pm me or call 07786265794.
Hi Stevierst, whats up with the TDM mate? Too big or heavy? Its something that i have been looking for but the mileage is offputting for me. I bought an FZS 600 in February for £1600 with only 8500 mls now and have spent another £400 on new tyres, Givi rack, rad cover, fender extender and bar risers but its a bit small for me at 6'5" so a TDM would fit me better. Is there a problem with power or handling as to why you dont want it mate?
I bought this as a cheap commuter after my son wanted his Fazer back. I've just been a sportsbike/streetfighter man all my life, thought I'd give this a go, and it's just not for me. I had a Tiger 1050 last year, and this is very much the same thing, soft suspension, gentle torquey power delivery, big comfy machine. I sold it on after 4 months, couldn't bond with it!
The engine is sweet as a nut. In town you don't need any revs to set off, then it just grunts along in a torquey twin kind of way. I had a bit of trouble with the suspension at first, but after rebuilding the rear shock bush, it's settled ok. The guy before me set it up all wrong too which didn't help! It could do with a rear shock some time in the future, but for now it's just fine.
As for mileage, the TDM forum has loads of guys well over this. One of them is on 161,000 miles on the same engine/box!!!
Give me a shout if you want to have a look.
Thanks for the info bud, thats another thing, your on the other side of the country to me in Blackpool, I'm in Hull on tuther side matey, bit of a ride out to have a look but I'm interested all the same. Never mind.

Are you looking for a swap for a fazer 600? I have a 2001 with 30'000 miles service history stamped up to 22'000. it's the last of the early shape'silver' I have owned two of these over the years and this one has a nice quite engine and drives well. It has been retricted to 33hp for the last two years, but i'm about to remove the blades that restrict it. full stainless viper exhaust system. Recently did the twin headlight conversion, so both headlights come on at same time. Funny thing is i wanted a tdm, so sold my gsxr, then contacted a guy about his tdm and it was sold. I needed a bike for work, so the fazer came up and i bought it. If interested send me a pm.
Yeah, no worries Buck. If your a big fella with long legs it should suit you just fine. I'm 6'1" with 36" inside leg, and freakishly long arms. The riding position is very comfy for me, should be even better for you.
Sit yourself on one, and see how you get on.
Here's a piccie of the swingarm which has some paint missing, and has a bit of surface rust. I have covered this in KRust in an attempt to prevent this from getting any worse, hence why it looks black. It's not too bad, if I keep the bike, I'll just end up repainting it.
